I'm in the process of putting together our last minute trip for after Christmas and could use some recommendations for restaurants. My parents recently bought an RV to spend their retirement travelling and Dad has some upgrade he wants done to it. A place in kissimmee can do it on 12/30 so he offered to bring our family to WDW for a Christmas gift. :) DH and I were already planning a trip in May with our boys but since we aren't close to the date for making PS for May yet I hadn't started looking into dining yet.

We'll be going with my parents, DH and I and our sons who are 3½ and almost 2. I already have a PS for breakfast at Chef Mickey's and one at CP w/ Pooh. I just need help with dinners. What are some restaurants that would be good for eating with the kids? I'm assuming we'll try to do Wispering Canyon at the WL one night. Maybe Ohana? My parents are picking up the meal tabs and have said they would rather sit down for dinners than do counter service. Any good ones in the parks? We'll be in the parks 12/29 through 1/3 so I know it will be crowded. Would that mean we'd be better off eating in the parks than taking the time to go back to resorts to eat? or would we be OK eating at an off time (like early dinner or something) at a resort and heading back to the parks for dinner hour?

I'm overwhelmed with this last minute planning stuff on top of getting Christmas ready for the boys! I am a believer in going prepared though...knowing what we really want to try to do before we hit the gates, we can always change plans to go with the flow but at a crowded time the last thing I want is to stand around in the parks saying "I don't know...where do you want to go eat?" for 20 minutes then waiting forever for a table at our choice!

Thanks so much!

You may want to try Prime Time 50's in MGM. You folks would probably like the decor - bring back some memories.

EPCOT has a variety of restaurants in the World Showcase - what type of food do you like?

For lunch in the Magic Kingdom we like the Plaza Restaurant - excellent huge sandwiches and salads. I especially like the Reuben sandwich. A sit down lunch is a nice break if you are in the MK before the 1st when it will be especially crowded.

You might also enjoy the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom or Downtown Disney. The kids would probably like the animatronic animals in the dining area.

Check out the menus and prices at www.wdwig.com

Enjoy!

On our first trip our boys were 6 and 4. They loved Ohana's (we were staying at the Poly). Last trip we ate at Whispering Canyon. Also a good 'boy spot'. Both are also good for the bigger kids...I enjoyed both meals!

I would also highly reccomend Liberty Tree Tavern in MK for dinner. It is a Character Meal (don't know if you want another one), but the food is good 'kid food'...and the characters were great. Even grandma and grandpa would like this one.

If you like Italian...we enjoyed Mama Melrose at MGM. A bit pricey, but good food. Our boys split a dinner here.

Good luck. Have a great trip!

I would think that you would welcome a respite from the parks at least untill 1/1. I agree that lunch at the Plaza is a good choice as well as Liberty Tree Tavern and CRT. At MGM, Mama Melrose is a peaceful retreat with good food and great service. The foods comes out quickly enough for little ones there as it does at the MK choices. Lots of nice choices at Epcot for a peaceful lunch.

Kona at the Polynesian has wonderful food and is a great spot for dinner or any meal but is more casual than some of the other resort restaurants that serve dinner. It might be a good choice for your family.

So many choices. Have fun planning!

I agree that Liberty Tavern is a great choice. It's my boy's favorite restaurant in MK. It's like a thanksgiving dinner served family style and the characters are dressed in colonial garb. The Garden Grill in the Land Pavillion in Epcot is another character meal that is pretty good but the World Showcase is probably a better alternative if at Epcot. Most of the countries pavillions have good restaurants so it really depends on what you like. Le Cellier is probably a good choice because kids seem to love the cheese soup and pretzel bread and adults can get a good steak. Alfredo's is also an option is your kids are like mine and could exist on pasta if I let them.It might be easier to get early ressies since you're booking last minute. Good luck and have a wonderful time.
