Just got an e-mail from "Jamiemadry" (don't know him/her) and the subject is "W32.Klez.E Removal Tools" it's a fairly large file at 186KB.

I have not opened it.

if you dont knwo who sent it delete it... thats my rule.

If you want to scan for the Klez virus go to www.symantec.com and scan if you do have it it will tell you how to remove it :)

Klez right there would tip me off big time... that is a virus and if you do a search on the website binny gave you, you can find more about it. If you delete it completely, you will be fine.

I thought you had Norton, Blondie. I got that email this week and Norton stopped it immediately.

Dan, this is probably a dumb question but exactly "how" does Norton stop these viruses? Does it give you a notice or something?

I do have Norton Dan, which concerns me now.

Earlier today I got an intrusion attempt warning that traced back to Manassas, Virginia.

Don't know if it's just a coincidence or not....could that have been the Klez e-mail that was trying (and succeeded) getting through?

Kitty, Norton, and I suppose any good virus protection software, scans incoming emails before they are allowed to reside on the computer (My Outlook Express looks for emails every 60 seconds). If Norton senses that it is a virus, I get a popup, saying it nailed something and asks what I want to do with it. (Default is quarantine it). I click okay, it gets quarantrined and then I delete it. I get probably up to a half dozen or so a week, mostly klez's of late. You MUST keep your definitions up to date, hopefully automatically.

Thanks Dan for the info.

I have Norton updated every week and every week there's a pop up saying nothing has been found. It's never said anything specifically about my e-mails.....I only get maybe 2 a day.

I just did a complete system scan and it didn't find anything!

I update the virus definitions on a regular basis too.

My update was just about to expire and so I downloaded Norton 2003(from 2001) and I love it. It catches everything in and out automatically. It even scans my emails before they are sent. If your Norton didn't catch it, maybe you need a new version. Check to be sure your expiration isn't up also. It's about $30/year.

Ozziewags, ours doesn't expire until Feb. 2003, and I update frequently. Maybe the email was legit, but I wasn't going to find out!

I also found out that the last intrustion attempt was from a proxy server, that originated in New York, and went thru a proxy in Bletchley,UK.

Interesting, huh?
