Could the April 2017 wbpc really have all verandahs sold out?!

Looking at the Disney website, there is still availability for verandah cabins in the October EBPC sailing. We were considering the April 2017 WBPC but they are all sold out of all verandahs... And it is still over 6 months out. This really surprised me given the availability still remaining for October. Is this to be expected? Is the April passage really that much more desirable...or is something up with the website?
TIA!

Quite likely. It's a popular cruise. Westbound is more popular than eastbound primarily due to the fact that you gain those extra hours instead of losing them. So some of the days are longer on the WB cruise than then EB cruise.

Could also have to do with when the cruise is (school breaks, etc) as well as the itinerary. Does the WB cruise have more ports?

The WB only has 4 stops. The verandah rooms have had low availability for awhile so I'm not surprised they sold out. They may open back up though since PIF is Christmas Eve, but then again you never know.

Could it be because the Wonder is on the Panama Canal cruise right now and those onboard are enjoying it so much they're booking for next year with their on board discount?

Maybe, but the only rooms left a couple weeks ago were category 4's and they were running around $8000 for two people lately. I booked on opening day and I've been watching the rooms decline since then.

I've been watching the Panama Canal cruises for ages and yes I think they are sold out, probably in the last week or 2 (I stalk them about once a week). I am really hoping for April 2018 but am worried that they will just decide to station the Wonder on the West Coast and the Panama Canal cruises will be done. Hoping hoping hoping the WBPC will be released with the early 2018 dates in October.

I doubt that would happen. There's really not much call for Disney on the west coast, except for the Alaska season. While they've done a few Hawaii, and Mexico cruises, they are often not good sellers. DCL will bring her back to the east coast for the more lucrative winter season there.

That makes me VERY happy to hear because a Panama Canal cruise is on my bucket list and just not in the cards for 2017 (unless some crazy GTY deal comes along which is why I've been stalking once a week even though I know its unlikely to pop up until after the PIF date).

The WBTA was pretty much sold out and then about 3 weeks before the PIF date a lot of rooms starting opening up. People do cancel. It could be a website glitch I've seen that a lot too.
