Could someone please explain coffee to me.

I really want Starbucks after reading this!

I could go for a Venti Cafe Americano w/ 2 shots of sugar-free cinnamon dulce right about now!

Actually I think the egg nog lattes aren't made with flavoring syrup, but with real egg nog (perhaps mixed with milk, but A LOT of egg nog).

So that's an exception to the latte = espresso + milk + flavor.
Egg nog latte = espresso + egg nog (and perhaps + a little milk).

I know I got an egg nog latte at the beginning of a long car trip once and was very disappointed when I drank some and found out it was 20 oz of almost pure egg nog in there--too much for me.

Confused yet?!

If they do mix the eggnog with milk, though, you could ask them for pure egg nog if you want more egg nog flavor.

As a Chai addict...I can say, they will use eggnog unless,...you specify otherwise. Sometimes, to save a calorie or two, I'll have them mix eggnog and non fat milk.

Sitting' here drinkin' a Chai eggnog latte right now...YUM!

And THIS is why we prefer Dunkin Donuts. :rotfl2: Honestly, just give me a hot chocolate.
Don't know many people around here who like Starbucks coffee. Everyone says it taste bitter & burnt. Yck!

Actually, Mocha is a type of coffee bean, such as Arabica. But we Americans have added chocolate to our coffee, and now Mocha is more common as "chocolate flavored coffee".

Breve is my favorite non flavored coffee. Yep, heart attack city, but boyohboy.

Ummm...I'm cravin' a Pumpkin Spice Latte..right NOW!!

And Southern Iced Tea (you don't have to order it "sweet", it comes that way) is nuthin' to make fun of...;)

OK, now for the real 411...

Coffee, be it regular or espresso, no matter what's added, is nothing more than hot water run through dirt (some call it beans, I call it dirt). The difference between coffee and espresso is not much more than $6.00 on average.

Ah, to be young and "trendy" again. Me, I skip the beans and the heat and drink water with an occasional tea bag added. (love my Ice Tea). By the way, "Sweet Tea" is really a glass of sugar. It is one of the only things that make me doubt the south. :rotfl: One sip and it is possible to slip into a diabetic coma.:scared:
There's just no helping some people... :sad2: :rotfl:

Me, too! :lmao:

-espresso is a very strong coffee. It is made from darker beans and is brewed differently than regular drip coffee.

-a latte is espresso with milk

-a cappuccino is basically a stronger latte with foam on top.

-a mocha is a latte with chocolate added
----------------

All of which are outrageously priced simply because they have attached the "in" catch words to them..

My fav at Starbucks...a Mocha Frappucino with an extra shot of expresso, no whip creme!

But....since McDonalds came out with their Sugar Free Vanilla Ice Coffee, it's my new addiction. (and everyone else's at work!)

I, too, have not given Starbucks much business lately thanks to the iced coffee at Mickey D's. I'm drinking one right now, matter of fact. Downside is that they don't have milk options - I must prefer non fat or soy.

If I didn't have it in hand, I'm be racing to Starbucks after reading this thread! =)

I am glad they came out with the "skinny" terminology - I used to have to say 'non fat, sugar free, no whip" and now just say skinny and they take care of it for me. Just easier.

My DH refuses to order for me at Starbucks because he doesn't know half of what I'm saying =)

Someone else mentioned the Costco GC deal - which is a GREAT deal so I wanted to mention it again. Save $20!

tsk:rolleyes: ....don't exaggerate. You know full well a Starbucks venti only costs $48.99.

:rotfl2:

I picked up the Starbucks cards at Costco yesterday. What a deal! I won't drink the stuff if I can help it, but the cards will be great along with a plate of cookies for the kids' teachers, the GS leader, and the bus driver!

It used to be that they were expensive because they tasted better and represented a treat that was more expensive to provide. We had Starbucks last night and gosh it was so tasteless.

I'm quite fortunate. My neighborhood Starbucks has excellent baristas. It makes quite a difference!

And I thought DH & I were the only ones that thought Starbucks coffee tastes burnt......and you know that wooden stir stick thingy, it always seems like the coffee ends up tasting like the stick, too! We've tried Starbucks in different towns, different states and still haven't gotten good coffee there. Plus I feel like an idiot looking at the sign forever trying to figure out what the heck I want. Too many choices....it makes my head want to explode!!

I love eggnog and tea (never thought of mixing them though) so I may give Starbucks one more try and order a chai eggnog latte.

Yeah, but it's still Charbucks coffee.
The problem is that that isn't the type of coffee they sell anymore. They introduced this new coffee, which they call Pike's Place blend. You'd probably like it: it tastes like nothing. ;) I haven't had a Starbucks-tasting coffee at Starbucks in over a year.

I don't like Pikes Place either. I prefer the bolds and extra bolds.

No one has mentioned how I have to have my Lattes, which is extra hot ( they never make it hot enough otherwise) and flat (even a hint of the yucky foam, and i send it back!) :)

Good Golly Miss Molly -- I only read about the first 3 messages and my brain is confused.

Thankfully, I make my life simple and just order Hot Chocolate when going to any coffee shop -- at least that's easy enough to say & I know what I should be getting! I have a hard enough time figuring out the sizes since they decided to fancy them up instead of just saying "small, medium & large".

Then again -- I have no idea what my normal coffee would be since it's a little bit of coffee in my milk & sugar on the rare occassions I have coffee. :lmao:

AND this is the first time I've ever heard of "shots" being added to coffee, before this thread I had never even heard of that!

Hmmm. No, I don't care for coffee that tastes like nothing. Just never liked it to taste bitter and burnt, which is how Starbucks coffee always tasted to me. I'm not up on what they use these days. All I know is that the one cup I've had from there this year was disappointing and overpriced as usual.

Judy, I often order mine extra hot also and make them that way at home. I dislike lukewarm lattes.

I dont like Starbucks coffees at all they taste like they made the coffee last week.:scared:

Actually, just a couple of shots of espresso plus about 4 advils help with a headache if you get to it before a migraine sets in..

Starbucks is ok, but not my favorite. I loved it when my DD was a Barista at a little coffee shop. She learned to make the best coffee drinks. I tend to like the little "hole in the wall" coffee shops. But, I like Joe Muggs, also.

For Sonic people, the Mocha Java Chillers are pretty good.
