I read somewhere that if you have points that are about to expire you can put them in RIIC

I just hate the thought of losing points--at some point in time

You can put them in 45 days before they expire, and must be deposited in increments of 10. You have to call MS to do this as it can not be done online. Once they are deposited, you have two years to use them up, and RCI is based on calendar year, so IIRC, those deposited today would be good from now through December 31st, 2023.

What happens if less than 45 days? I have been procrastinating!

At one time, I read it would make them restricted points to use within RCI..similar to holding eight DVC..last minute type use.

Then it was mentioned that DVC told people there is no last minute ability to do it. Once you pass the 45 day mark, it’s not an option any more.

But, since I have never actually needed to, I can’t be sure. It would take a call to MS.

Perhaps this would serve as a warning to others. 45 days is the deadline! NO exception (pandemic or not). I learned the hard way.

Why the 45 day rule is , a RCI member uses your points to come to WDW within that 45dsy time frame. DVC wants to give RCI members that 6 week plus period.

Can you book RCI with partial points and partial cash?

Not in the way you are thinking. An exchange takes X points, and you can't pay money to make X smaller.
