could it be a spider bite?

I am shocked the Dr didn't culture it. You shouldn't prescribe a broad spectrum anitbiotic when they don't know what it is they are dealing with. You do have to almost tell the Drs today what they need to do. Bacterias or bites are nothing to mess around with. Keep us posted on how she is doing. Prayers being said that she feels better soon.

Can you still culture something after you start taking antibiotics??? :confused3

No that is why the Dr should have done a culture and then start her immediatly on some antibiotic til the cultures come back that would tell them what antibiotic would be suseptable. How is she doing today?

dd8 came in this morning with a really bad sore on her butt. It's round, about the size of a pencil eraser. The center looks like a hole with a scab, and around it, the skin looks like it's kind of flaky and breaking down. It's warm to the touch and it's surrounded by red. She says that it hurts around it. Unfortunately, we can't get an appointment until tomorrow morning. I marked around it with a pen to see if it's changing.
I'm concerned it's a bite of some kind. She just got back from camp, she's been playing outside constantly and we have spiders in our house. We're getting sprayed tomorrow. My question is, does it sound like a spider bite? Are we okay to see the doc tomorrow morning or should i see about after hours care today? It's either that or the ER and i don't feel like she needs the ER.

That description is of a brown recluse spider bite. There is nothing they can do. If hers is that small she is very lucky.

We're watching her very closely and i don't want to jinx anything, but it actually looks the same, if not a little bit better. it's not as red around it as it was and it just looks less angry than it did. She started the antibiotic just over twenty four hours ago. She's had five doses so far.

When my dd was in the hospital earlier this year a spoke to the mom of another patient- her dd got a "bug bite" that later became infected with MRSA- it was bad- I won't go into detail because I don't think your dd's case will get that extreme-

But do keep an eye on it- sometimes things will still culture if on antibiotics- but it definitely interfers. If it doesn't start getting better go back and get them to do something. If it gets worse go immediately and get them to do something.

Sometimes you have to see more than one doctor- or get a specialist to look at it.

Good luck- pixie dust and prayers

even if she does not look worse I still would take her to get it swabbed...it can turn nasty in a short time,it only takes a moment.

Poor little spider always gets blamed for things:
