Could I? Would I? We have free dinining and a 7 year old.... upgrade her to adult?

The same can be done to upgrade your under 3 year old to a child to get dinning, why wouldn't it be ok to do this for child to an adult?????????????????? Under 3 can't buy dinning plan (or get it free) but you can sign them up for it buy saying they are 3 and or buying one day ticket (oh and the ticket can be used at a later date, it does not have to be used now.) Many people with AP's do this.

Yes they would be in they system as older later. Tell them it was done to increase her age so she didn't have to only eat kids foods. It was a mistake and you have proof of their current age. Disney had me and my family in their system 6 different times last time I called them.

I think it seems like a good idea if your daughter likes the adult menu choices better. It is a ton of food, but she doesn't have to get the appetizers and desserts every time. I really don't see it being a big deal, but what do I know? :confused3

OK, I called Disney myself. I said my daughter was seven. I said we have the free dining package. I asked if we could fudge her age and pay the difference so she wouldn't be limited to the child's menus.

The CM put me on hold while she asked a supervisor. She came back to tell me that she hadn't even thought about the fact that I'd have to pay the increase on the admission. Well, sheesh, I knew that! Actually, that's why I asked the question on DIS in the first place. I'm sure many of us have found that DIS experts often know more about some of the more complicated issues than CM's. Don't get me wrong.... The CM was friendly, courteous, and helpful. After putting me on hold several times (though for only brief moments) she told me that it would cost $21.72 to upgrade my daughter from a 3-9 yo to a 10-17 yo and we could eat whatever we'd like. Done!

It did cost $10 more than I was expecting...the price difference between a child's 1 day base and an adult ticket is $11.72. Maybe because we made the change 4 days before we arrive.... Who knows, I don't care about the extra $10. Rest assured Disney Stockholders, it's likely to be a complete wash for us. But we won't have to worry about which credits in any way shape or form.

Good for you! I am glad it worked out :thumbsup2

This should put to rest, the arguments about what is fair and what isn't ;)

I am confused. Not hard to do.
Anyway...
My son is 8 and so if I wanted to get him the adult options on the free dining plan all I have to do is upgrade his ticket? Seriously?
Did the CM you talked to mention about future trips? Would the child's age now and forever be several years older? This really might be worth it if I could get him on the adult plan.
Thanks in advance for the help!

I did this a couple of weeks ago and the cost was minimal( less than $20.) I got to thinking about it and my younger child doesn't eat most kids menu type food and if she was the only member of the family who had to order off the kids menu the food would be wasted. It wasn't worth the hassle.

I called and explained that to the CM and she had no problem with the upgrade. It took all of about 5 minutes and she totally understood. Oh - and she won't be considered an adult from now on. Until she turns 10 we will be able purchase child's AP's for her and if we do the DP again, we can have her as an adult if we want.

I guess because they allow you to upgrade your child to adult status if you want to pay more, they also allow it during free dining to be consistent. You are able to pay a little more to put you at the same level as the family who has a 10 year old even though you have a 7 year old. I don't think Disney really cares that the family with 10 year olds gets a better "deal" than the family with 7 year olds so doesn't care if family upgrades to adult status. You don't have to fudge child's age. I called to inquire if you could pay more and upgrade child to adult (it happens to be really cheap during free dining). THEY said it was fine and the system required a fudge of age to get it to work out. (CM didn't mention changing the age but it was apparent on reservations.) They processed it with an additional charge to credit card the same way as if I had asked to upgrade to a water view. If Disney were to have said, we don't allow tampering with ages and you are not allowed to upgrade, thats fine. This is NOT breaking any Disney rules. Sort of funny when people tell other people, sure, Disney says its ok but its a little too good of a deal so you shouldn't do it.......
