Yesterday I spoke with my 2nd grader's teacher to ask if there was a good Monday and Tuesday that I could request that he be absent. She said that he was doing great, and that it would be no problem at all to keep him out this coming Mon & Tues. It wasn't a problem for my Kindergartner, either. :)
So, I picked up the absentee request forms and hit them with the big question: "How would you like to go to WDW this weekend?" :bounce:
I expected surprise, joy, happiness, etc. Nope. There is some kind of NASA presentation for my son's 2nd grade class on Monday. It involves turning Pringles cans and empty film containers into a telescope, and he doesn't want to miss it. I'm sure it will be interesting, but as fun as WDW??:(
Whaaaa! I really, really wanted to go. I'm glad that DS is so into everything about school, but good grief. I can't believe my WDW surprise was shot down by an 8 year old.
Younger DS was disappointed too, but we're going to try to sneak in a trip towards the end of May.
Are your children less interested in WDW than you are?

Just tell him he might have the opportunity to meet shep's daughter..;) ...maybe we'll see ya next week..

I've seen pics of your DDs Shep, and they are too cute! I'm afraid that won't work with Daniel, however. He's 8 and girls have cooties, you know. ;)
We were going to leave on Friday and come back Tuesday. (sobb, sobb, sobb....)

My one and only trip had to be rescheduled because it was the last week of school and they didn't want to miss it.

:)

My DD has never been into WDW as much as me. Or into Disney, in general, as much as me. I've tried, but it just isn't working. However, she's looking forward to this trip quite a bit more than the other ones. No doubt she's wondering how many cute boys she'll see at Blizzard Beach. I'm on to her. ;)

Thank goodness DH, DS and DD are into it as much as me:cool: ! We surprised them with a Dec. trip in 01 and they missed a Monday at school. There WAS something going on that day, but they did not mind and both LOVE school :) ! I did not ask them, we just told them we were going that weekend and they were thrilled. Tempt him with something he can get or do at WDW that he likes. Or just decide you are the boss and GO, RUN like the wind to WDW;) :p !

When my kids were young, they were as much into it as I am. Now that they've "matured" they aren't as much. Sarah (22) is almost as into Disney as I am, but not quite.

Leave your oldest with Grandma, and go with the kindergartener!!! I could never pass us a chance to go see the World.

If you don't make it this weekend, the end of May isn't that far. If I lived in Florida, I'd have to buy more DVC points so I could go every weekend!!!

I'll go in their place!!!:teeth:
My kids and dh are nuts for wdw too. However we've only been twice and can only squeeze in a trip every 2-3 years.
Hope you get a trip squeezed in later in the month.

I guess I'm in the minority -- I would be proud that your DS wanted to stay and learn something science related and see a presentation that no, he won't have the opportunity to see again in the future most likely. His attitude of wanting to stay and see that instead of going to WDW is great, IMHO. I'd try to find another weekend to take them instead. Or, if he's interested in space, wait until Mission Space opens and take them to see that -- I know they're supposed to have some interactive exhibits or something for those that can't ride the ride.

so your child wants to go to school. do you know how many parents would kill for a child who was interested in school?

you live in lforida, WDW isn't closing tomorrow, I'm sure you'll find another weekend to make the trip.

I can still vividly remember the time we were visiting WDW (we had just moved to FL, but had visited WDW every year) and right in the middle of the Magic Kingdom, our DD, who was probably about 4 or 5, said "I don't want to be in Disneyworld! I want to go swimming!"

All I could imagine was all the other families who might have heard her, who had saved up a long time to bring their families to WDW and there our DD was whining about it!

And even though she's looking forward to our Disney Magic cruise in 4 weeks, she said she really wouldn't be going on a "Disney" cruise if she were on her own and picking a vacation spot!

Go figure...

Oh, I am happy that Dan loves school so much, but I'm still disappointed that we're not going to WDW. I'm so proud of my son, I can assure you.
If I didn't realize that school is far more important than WDW, then I would make him go. I'm not doing that. Last week was the last week of homework, and they seem to be taking it pretty easy till they get out May 20th.
We are closing on our new house on May 30th, but hopefully we can sneak in a few days there. Grandma and all the other relatives are scattered from SC to NY, so that's out. I don't want to go without Dan, anyway.
As far as living in FL, I was closer to WDW when I lived in GA.

You might not be in as much of a minority as you think, Rajah. I agree 100% with you. :)

I would have liked to see your face when he said he didn't want to go. hehehe :teeth: Kids sure can surprise you sometimes, can't they?

I know you are proud of him, though! It's wonderful that he's interested in school. Maybe you have a budding scientist on your hands!

Whenever your trip does happen, have a great time! :D

Betotally thrilled that your son really wants to go to school. That is very encouraging and warms my heart.

Yes, wait until the end of the year, or another weekend. They will still enjoy it then.

mowsie, You could have knocked me over with a feather. LOL!
Dan does plan to become a scientist, BTW.:)

Thanks to everyone for the "cheese". :teeth:
