Couch or sofa?

growing up we called it a couch, still do today. Always called coke, pop. Now I live in Florida I have gotten use to callin it soda. We had a cellar where the coal was kept to put in the coal furnace. We don't have a celler or basement in Florida.

Couch.
Pop (only Coke is called Coke).
Dinner.
Cellar is for wine or hiding from tornados.
Basement is for the family room. We just finished ours 2 years ago (4 yr old house). But ours isn't even really a basement. We have a raised ranch on a slab. The land was built up around it. So I guess ours is neither a cellar OR a basement.

Pardon if this is a repeat, but:

The word couch is a slang word, mostly used my middle class society. The word sofa is used by upper class and socialites, and is considered the formal, proper word.

LOL.
I use almost all of these terms.
Usually a couch, but sometimes a sofa.
Occasionally the cellar, but most often the basement.
Usually dinner, but sometime supper. (Although I have been known to refer to breakfast as dinner)
But always soda, never pop!
You would think I lived in several different states, but I am a Delaware native.

Pop is a noise. Soda is a drink. Coke is a brand of drink.
Couch is in the family room, Sofa is in the formal living room.
Cellar is cement or dirt, basement is finished with floor, walls and furniture.
Dinner is eaten in the dining room. Supper is eaten in the kitchen. Supper is also eaten before dark-dinner is usually served later- after dark.
Its all about formality and informality.
Formal: Sofa, Soda,Basement, Dinner
Informal: Coke/Pop/Pepsi, Couch, Cellar, Supper.

And thats that!

When I was litttle my parents always called it a davenport.
My family always says couch, pop and supper.
But here is another......................... do you go to the "grocery" or the "grocery store"?
