So, we will be attending our very first MNSSHOP this year. There are seven of us (ages as of the trip):

Myself (35)
DW (33)
DD (15)
DS (13)
DS (4)
DS (2)
DS (4 months)

Clearly, we'll need to do costumes. DD is very anti any sort of Disney theme... is very anti theme, period. We have, however, gotten her to come around on us all going as a family of pirates.

However, I have noticed that fake weapons are not allowed. Does this mean that plastic cutlasses and the like (which would be quite obviously plastic) are a no-no? Does this apply to adults only, or kids as well?

Stupid question, I'm sure, but I'd like to verify while we're still in the planning stage.

Thanks!

Seems odd that they aren't allowed since you can buy all of those items in the park.

Several years ago my son went as Gaston and carried his plastic knife all night. (Which BTW was purchased at the Pirates gift shop)

See, this is what I was thinking. I'm rather doubting that it will be an issue - but I would hate to show up at the gates and have said issue.

The hundreds of people (kids and adults) with light sabers during Star Wars weekends didn't seem to have an issue.

I think plastic cutlasses and swords in the hands of a few adults is much safer than 30 eight year old boys with lightsabers.

I'm guessing that this is written so as to give Disney an easy out to remove something that looks like a real weapon.

DH and I carried plastic swords, and DH had a toy blunderbuss several years ago. Maybe email Disney and ask?

DH was Zorro in 2005- he carried a plastic sword all night no problem

We went as a group of pirates a few years back and brought in 3 long, plastic swords-no problems. Just make sure you can attach them to a stroller (looking at the kids ages I am assuming there will be at least one) as the evening wears off-after the pictures were done everyone was done wanting to hold on to them

I'm pretty sure we saw other pirates with swords? Just remember, it's still VERY hot that time of year.:scared1: We were SO hot this past Oct, so I'd make sure your outfits are thin and can easily ventilate...otherwise, you'll be miserable. :thumbsup2

We've been having the same conversation. We were thinking about going as Star Wars characters, but DS wanted to be a stormtrooper until I read that they don't allow masks. I was lobbying for Harry Potter characters, anyway, so I was secretly looking for a way out of the Star Wars theme (even though I'm a HUGE SW fan, too). DS finally agreed to the HP theme, but only if we can get the robes and wands at the official Wizarding World of HP. Looks like now I'll be planning a trip to Universal before our WDW trip...
