:sunny: Hi everyone,we're off to Toronto in 10 days and i wonder if you guys can help me with my budget .Cost wise, e.g groceries and prices in general, would you say everything is more expensive, the same or cheaper than Orlando? We are a family of four(mum and three kids 12,8 and 6) and usually spend around $2,500 in orlando on spends including food and clothes.Would i need more in Toronto or allow about the same.I intend do the main sites e.g harbour front, ontario place ,science centre cn tower, catch a blue jays game, canadian ex and hopefully catch some bargains :cool1: Many thanks in advance :sunny:
P.S we are also spending two days at niagara.

This is probably an over-generalization but I would say that you should expect to pay the same amount as you would for stuff in Orlando, but in Canadian dollars rather than U.S. currency. Therefore, everything should be a little cheaper because the Canadian dollar is worth around 80 cents of U.S. currency.

However, you should also know that there are two levels of tax on most purchases (8% provincial, 7% federal for a total of 15%). The federal level of tax may be recoverable by tourists by mailing in for a rebate but I think that some sort of stamp needs to be obtained on the supporting invoices before you leave the country...so, make sure you get the details about this as soon as you come into the country...you should be able to get an explanatory brochure at the border from Canadian customs.

I agree with the above poster. Restaurants may be a bit more expensive than Orlando but the exchange should absorb that. There are always sales on at the shops so you may find some bargains. I would warn you about Niagara Falls though as it is gouge city. Absolutely ridiculous prices, we checked Denny's for breakfast and they wanted $47.00 for breakfast for 2 it was outrageous.
Enjoy your trip and good luck in finding some bargains and having fun.

I think it's cheaper, for the same reasons as previous posters.

Have a great trip here!

I discovered this the hard way one October while in Niagara Falls for a conference -- stopped in at Denny's near the Falls and nearly fell over from the price of a small bowl of chili and a Coke.

Apparently the Denny's farther up Lundy's Lane has much more reasonable prices (i.e. more like the Denny's pricing one expects.)

LOL!...actually that was the Denny's up Lundy's Lane.
Price gouging at its tourist area best !

You will find not much different at all. Agreed, stay away from Denny's on Victoria as it is outrageous for pricing, but go up Lundy's and the Dennys beside the days inn is normally priced.(pretty sure it is a days inn). Also it is very near the Canada One outlets and you will get some very nice deals there too! Enjoy the Jays game (yell for Miguel Batista as I have him on my fantasy team and give him encouragement). If you are there for lunch try Ruby Tuesdays as the food is excellent! (clifton hill) You will love Canada's Wonderland (gotta have funnel cake and chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich) they sell the cc icecream sandwich over near the vortex and for the money excellent value! Ontario place is alot of fun and you should try the "fish bowl" water slide it is alot of fun. Well there is about my 7 1/2 cents worth. Have fun!!!!!

If you do go to a Jays game do not feel the need to spend $$$ on tickets. The $9 tickets on the 5th level are great seats -- you can see the entire field and the jumbotron. If you get tickets in the outfield on level 100 or 200 you won't be able to see all of the field and you won't be able to see the jumbotron.

The prices will probably seem a little cheaper esp. in the grocery stores.

You have to go to Paramount Canada's Wonderland, your kids will absoluetly LOVE IT!!!

We did it twice and our kids had so much fun! It's not Disney but it's fun!!!

Just got back from Niagara Falls yesterday and as I sat in Dennys on Lundys' Lane I was outraged at the prices, $5.75 for 4 pieces of bacon it was outrageous compared to normal Denny's prices,,,,stay away, there was a nice place accross the street that we noticed after All you can eat Breakfast Buffet $6.99
:wizard:

We went to the same Denny's that you are talking about 2 years ago, and for 3 small children who ate only toast, and us that took pancakes, it cost us 60$!!!!!!!!!
The next year we stayed at the hotel with the buffet at 6.99$ (Best Western), don't get me wrong but it was not that cheap for what they offered.... So I don't know where is a good place to eat at Niagara???? I didn't find one except that wonderfull restaurant that was up on a tour, but it was very expensive.
