Costs from LAX to Harbor Hotels

I originally asked this in another thread but it was suggested I start a new one.

I've read all the posts I can find about transportation options from LAX to the Harbor hotels, but right now I'm trying to determine the best cost option using the most recent prices.

There will be a total of 4 adults; 1 is flying in solo on an earlier flight and the rest of us won't be in for a few hours later to LAX. Our friend figures she'll hang out until we arrive so we can go to the Fairfield Inn on Harbor together.

Since we're using buddy passes, we have no guarantee of when we'll arrive but at the earliest it would be 2:30 PM. What I'm trying to gauge is what will be the cheapest option: the flat fee per person on the DL Express, or splitting cab fare. Obviously the con to the bus is the need to stop at different hotels along the way. A cab would be faster, but what I can't seem to find out is approximately how much the average fare is from LAX to a Harbor hotel. I'm finding ranges of $80 to over $100 one way from a year or two ago.

So my question is this: Have you flown in to LAX and used a taxi to get to a Harbor hotel, and how much did it cost you? Is the bus a better option despite the need to stop at different hotels? If the cost comes out the same, my group would want to do the taxi as it would be more direct.

If you are looking for direct trans from LAX to the hotels on Harbor, one option is to rent a Honda Odyssey from Execucar for $72 USD one way. They will take you directly from the airport to the hotel. For 4 people it may offset the expense of booking a shuttle that takes you anywhere that you want to go before going to your hotel. I've had mixed experiences with them, but am going to give them a second chance with our trip to the mouse in late Sept. Regardless you are looking at close to an hours drive, factoring in that it's 35 miles from LAX to Disneyland, and you are arriving in around rush hour (although it's rush hr in Los Angeles 24/7). So it may take a little longer to get there, depending on the quality of your driver.

If your early-arriving friend is paying for one of the FFI rooms, she can always take the Supershuttle to the hotel, check in early and get some rest before the rest of you arrive. It's about $32 (for everything including tax, tip, and web discount using QWEST code) per person for a round-trip from/to the airport. It won't cost her more to go separate from the rest of you, so why stay and wait? I'd be raring to unpack and kick up my feet!

We use the shuttle for our trips and it's been very reliable.

I agree -- super shuttle is pretty easy and the stops at other hotels don't add a whole lot of time. I'd prefer that to sitting in an airport waiting for people who may or may not show up at a set time. Supershuttle also picks you up whenever you get to LAX. No set time schedule. They have buses going through there all the time.

I think it would grey all of my hair sitting in LA traffic watching a meter run. LAX is not close to Disneyland.

So it sounds like most people choose supershuttle; taxi fare runs the risk of being crazy expensive as result of traffic. That may be what we choose. Anyone know how early you can request supershuttle to pick you up in the morning, say for a 7 AM flight from LAX?

When you book Supershuttle, you input what time your flight leaves and where they are picking you up, and then they give you times to choose from. They will pick you up whenever they need to in order to get you to LAX in plenty of time.

We did the DL Express 2 weeks ago for a pre-paid price of $99.00 return for up to 5 people. I don't think we could have done it any cheaper and the service was o.k. also. Our kids really liked the Disney-muraled bus too!

Honestly, the hotel stops took hardly no time at all and the number of them totally depend on how may other parties are on your bus. Since the buses depart every 1/2 hour from LAX they are often not very crowded. DL hotel is always the first stop (for some sort of administrative purpose). We stayed at the Camelot (not sure where the Fairfield is from there) and we were the 3rd stop after the Holiday Inn and the Cartona.

The Supershuttle seems to always work best for our family. Their customer service was really great and very easy to book. The few stops didn't really bother us and it was kind of nice to see what other hotels were like in the area.

What about the new service Shuttle2LAX? I think it is cheaper than both super shuttle or the Disney bus.
