Costco Shame.......

I've got a huge tin of iced-tea mix stashed in the back of my pantry. Neither DH or I even like iced-tea all that much, but for some reason I thought it would be a great thing to have on hand.

Other than that, we tend to use everything else that we buy at Costco. We only get what we know we like and will make use of.

Somebody that I worked with here in NY bought me a HUGE container of gumbo file (pronounced fee-lay) because they know I'm originally from Louisiana. 15 years later, still adding that file to our gumbo. I can't throw it out because it's dried, nothing wrong with it, still tastes good. I'm never going to have to buy that stuff again, though. Ever.

2,000 pack paper Hot Dog boat.

actually, it is a 1,973 pack.......had the Cub Scouts over last week......:thumbsup2

Large bag of dried wild mushrooms.

agnes!

Grey Poupon. The second vat in the two-pack actually turned, well, grey. Eww. We like mustard, but apparently not that much.

This should win "Funniest Thread of the Year" award - I am unexpectedly awake in the middle of the night and trying to keep from waking up my daughter by laughing out loud at 3:30am!!!!

You should all get togehter and have a pot luck - where you bring your giant vat and have to take some of everything - good use for all those baggies!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Can you imagine if everyone on this thread went the "trick or treater" route??

Cajun seasoning.......not once, but TWICE!!!:headache:
I hate hate hate hot and spicy food, but DH loves it. I guess I thought we would use it. That was about 8 years ago.:sad2:

Just yesterday at Costco I bought a huge, huge plastic container of Coffee Mate powder. I explained to my wife that it will save money in the long run. However, it is simply too big to keep in the kitchen (no cabinet will hold it). I have it in the garage right now. If I can't figure out where to keep it by Christmas then it may become an office 'Chinese auction' gift.

peaches, dont know why I have never opened them, my kids love peaches.

Pickles! I would buy the regular size jars and my family would suck those suckers down in a day.:scared: I bought a monster sized jar from Costco and I guess by then everyone was sick of pickles. 6 months later I finally threw it away unopened because it was taking up too much space. :sad2:

Oh and AAA batteries. I have those things coming out my ears. DH thinks you can never have too many and keeps buying them. Now I have a drawer full of AAA batteries. Of course we never think to take any with us and our camera goes through them like mad so when we are out we have to run to the store to buy more.:headache: I wouldn't be suprised if I had 100 sitting in the drawer.:upsidedow

Taco Seasoning.. I thought, HEY! I make tacos a lot. Not as much as I though, I guess. :lmao:

Looks like a few of us got caught with this one. I think I've had my jar for about 5 years. I still have about 1/4 of it left, and it's lost some of it's mojo. I think it's time to just throw it out.

My other purchase of shame was the giant jar of mustard. I only made that mistake once.

Plastic bags (like grocery store ones). For some bizarre reason I bought a box of 1,000 of them. I used to take my lunch to work in them, and evidently I thought I needed to have bags to last for years!

Lemon juice, holy cow it's a HUGE bottle and it comes in a 2 pack!! I finally threw one out LOL.

!

I buy the lemon juice, too, but I actually use it. I use 1/2 cup in the sauce for Sweet and Sour Meatballs, and I also use it in a rib marinade.

We get those bags and use them for when we (or, rather, my wife) cleans out the cat litter box. Since they are new, no leaking of kitty debris.

When we all get together for this strange meal, I'll bring the napkins. About 5 years ago, I started using this Fiesta napkin dispenser that holds the paper napkins on either side (like you used to see in restaurants all the time). I could never find the right size napkins though, so when I happened to see them at Costco, I bought a package. Honestly, in 5 years time, we've hardly made a dent in that package.

I'm actually wanting to redo my kitchen stuff, but I'm not willing to let my DH have the last word on those darn napkins. He told me we would never use all those things!

Go to the Container Store and get a smaller container and a funnel. They make them in glass (we use a sugar dispenser), with a flap on the top. You could also get a Rubbermaid container -- they make a small 2 cup juice-like container that you could put the creamer in. Just refill from the mongo container as needed.

Guess purchasing a container to be able to use the creamer defeats the savings......

We actually moved Costco napkins from VA to WI last year! But they are gone now.

For about 8 years though we had Red Party Cups - about 500 of them that we finally tossed out before we moved.

Excellent idea! I always like an excuse to go to the Container Store.

No doubt my attempt to save money on CoffeeMate will end up costing me $100.00 by the time I exit the Container Store (one of my favorite).
