Costco Question

If I bring a friend to Costco with me (my membership card), can she pay with her credit card - or does the credit card have to match the name on the membership card?

Does anybody know

My Costco only takes debit cards. Not credit cards.

I don't think they'll accept her credit card -card has to be the same name as the membership. Our Costco accepts American express.

It can be a different name as long as it is a debit card & the member (owner of the card) is present. That is how it works in our local Costco.

Best way to do it, tell your friend to bring cash.

I've never had a problem. I'm sure my mother has swiped her card to pay for cakes or presents while there with me. My membership is under my nickname while my legal name is on all my bank/cc cards.

They should also take AMEX. God know that about once a month I get a Costco piece of mail trying to get me to sign on for AMEX.


As an aside, I just read where Costco is the 9th largest retailer in the world. Sam's club has more stores, but Costco sells more goods.

At ours they check ID and the name on the credit/debit card has to match the member name. My nickname is on my membership card, so therefore does not match my debit card, so it was questioned and I was told I had to get the card changed. Sounds like it determined by your local store.

If she has a debit card or an Amex card and you are standing right there with her it should be fine. Before I had my own card I use to go with my mom and use hers; we would just tell the cashier that the next two orders needed to go on the one membership card.

wow that sucks! I take my moms debit card and use hers for what she wants even if she is not with me- they never question it as I have the PIN for it!

Just this past week at our local Costco our son was not allowed to pay for a tv with his debit card. They said he had to have his own membership. Now, if my husband had just swiped the card himself it probably wouldn't have been an issue.

I have/had a business costco card and have used the buisness Amex but my boss is listed as the Amex card holder. I did have an issue ONCE with using it, but I could use a signed blank check and fill in the amount.
