Costco Premium Character Dining Voucher

Love those Costco vouchers! Last year, we had a Costco package and got 3 vouchers for Character Dining. We used them for 3 meals (a lovely Steakhouse 55 late breakfast, dinner at Storyteller's Cafe and I think we used the last one at Flo's). With the Costco package, you also get a $20 gift card which we used for a quick pizza lunch and sodas in Toon Town.

If you have a larger family...I can see getting to that amount at a CS place easily. My family of 3 hasn't spent more than $35.

The three of us had to order some extras that we wouldn't ordinarily buy to get up past $44.

Yes, this is true. I only go the Costco route when the whole family goes (5). When it's just me or me and adult dd, I never book a Costco package! DD and I would not be able to spend that much on CS food. With my dh and/or other dds along, we could do it easily! I've never had a package for 3 of us, but you're right, smaller families might not spend $44 on CS. If you had a kid voucher, that would be the time to use it.

If you used the adult voucher at, say, Cucina Cucamonga could you redeem part of the value towards a souvenir cup?

This will be my first trip without a stroller so I'm not sure I'd want it but maybe. I'm debating dropping my premium character dining vouchers as I'm not sure we'd get our $$ worth on my adult one. (Me + 2 little boys!)

Though if I figure 2 half-chicken platters comes to $27 I only need another $17. Add some chips, lunch drinks, a spare bottle of water or two (or three!) and we are there.

We usually carry a small 31 thermal bag in the bottom of the stroller with ice and bottled water but with no stroller this trip... I have to rethink some things!

Will the vouchers work towards tax as CS restaurants?

The dining vouchers are good for a character meal or the face value of the voucher. So let's say the premium voucher says it's worth $35, or a premium character meal, well you can use it anywhere for $35 or for a character meal. It should be noted that while you can use it for a character meal, you should never use it for one that's less than the cost of the voucher. Also it should be noted that when you use the vouchers as cash, no change is given, so never use it for a total that is less than the dollar amount on the voucher.

Really, unless you get the vouchers for free, they are not worth getting. There just isn't any savings there, especially if you aren't going to use it for the most expensive character meal that it is valid for.

I'm still trying to work out the details on these vouchers. This thread has helped, some.

But, here's where I'm still confused. If you are going to use them on Character meals, are they worth it? We will be doing Ariel's and Storytellers. Maybe Minnie's. Would it be worth it to get the vouchers (we'd have to pay for it, no Costco here) for 2 adults and 1 child?

For those locations, probably not. The highest wither of those will charge is $29.99 plus tax and gratuity, but normal is mor around $25-$26. So unless the vouchers cost less than that, it isn't worth it. If you have anything that gives you a discount at the restaurant, it would make the price even lower. To find out your exact cost of when you are going, you can check Allears.

By the way, if you want the most characters, Minnie's Breakfast at Plaza on Main Street is the best choice, they have more characters than any of the other character meals. They also are the cheapest and the only character meal that doesn't charge or even accept gratuity.

Thanks, that's very helpful.

I'll put Minnie's on our list too.

I was leaning to Storytellers because I understand they have some more unique characters and Ariel's because she's DGD's favorite (Ariel's daughter and DGD share a name :goodvibes )

I ordered the premium character dining vouchers. If my math is right, if we use the vouchers for a character breakfast, we'll be losing approx. $15.

Can we just pay cash for the character meal, then use the vouchers elsewhere? If we have a voucher for $22 dollars, but total comes to $30, can we use the voucher then pay cash for the remaining $8?

Yes, you can do that. That's what we do. You can also have some of the voucher applied for a tip. Most (all?) of the character meals have the tip included, btw, so be aware of that.
