If cost overruns at Shanghai, etc., are really the reason for cutbacks at Disney's domestic parks, this would be the perfect time to bring back E-Ride Nights. Charge an extra $10 per person for On Property Guest, for an extra 3 hours, one day a week for each park. Mondays MK, Tuesdays EPCOT, etc. Actually, they could do the same thing in the mornings as well. Charge an extra $10 for On Property Guest to get into the parks 2 hours early, one day a week for each park. Of course only E-Ticket attractions, restaurants and stores would be open, so they wouldn't have to staff the entire park for the extra hours.

Shhhhhhh! IIRC EMH came out of the old E-Nights. Don't give them any ideas to change extra for EMH.

E-Ride Nights were great. It was like you had the park to yourself. With all of the DVC's and additional Resort Rooms built and Non-Disney owned Resorts that participate in EMH, the much larger crowds taking advantage of EMH has considerably devalued the perk. Obviously, it's costing Disney way too much, so they've reduced the number of EMH hours significantly.

If the E-Ride Nights had been profitable, you can rest assured that they would still be offered. I don't know one way or the other, but I have to assume that they weren't the cash cow that you think they were. And if I recall correctly, the last one was $12 + tax.

Don't get me wrong, I loved E-Nights. They were AWESOME! I just don't think Disney would bring them back even if they charged 2-3 times more for them.

Make it $15-20 then.

EMH sure isn't profitable.

I disagree. It might not draw you to stay onsite, but it does draw many folks to stay onsite vs. offsite. EMH is classic bandwagon! Even for the guests who never use EMH. The idea that they have a potential advantage is a powerful incentive.

Room occupancy likely funds some of WDW's transportation, dining, and entertainment costs. Resort occupancy drives dining traffic. Offsite visitors don't have to eat breakfast or dinner on property, but onsite guests with no car face a big hurdle if they want to eat offsite.

I went to one once, about 10 or 15 years ago, the park was empty, which was its downfall. Same with the Princess parties, didn't attract enough people for it to be profitable. I don't recall what they were charging - $30 or $40?

They could easily get $59 per person for an extra 3 hours in the parks. Heck, they already get $70 for an extra 5 hours during MNSSHP.

I could easily seem them doing away with EMH, replacing that perk with something else (like a 4th Fast Pass) and then offering special nights that the park is open late at a special guest.

Like a party, but cheaper (and less overhead since they won't need to do anything special).

I just wonder how many people would be interested in paying $X for going to the parks late at night. (especially when they've been offering it for free for so long).

I guess it depends on how badly Disney wants people to continue to overpay for onsite rooms.

As you rightfully said, we are paying for EMH in advance with a built-in cost to our room rates. Reducing a perk like EMH and increasing room rates at the same time sure sends mixed signals to it's supposedly valued on property guest. I'm sure Disney would say that they're doing there best to keep room rates down, by cutting where their guest told them they want cuts to occur.

Higher.
Looking at the price of a side-angle view of Wishes plus a cupcake; or the cost of a few hours with the Villains and Voodoo Sticky Pig Wings; it is a miracle that E-Ride nights were ever $10-$15. The going rate today would be $99 or more. And you probably wouldn't get Voodoo Sticky Pig Wings.

(Pete is going to be so proud of the fact that I worked Voodoo Sticky Pig Wings into this post twice. Errrrrr....Three times!!)
