Cost of meals

I've been looking at the menus listed on allearsnet.com to choose where would be best to book our ADR's. It says child meals are for "3 - 9 year olds NOT 3 - 11 year olds". Trouble is our youngest will be 11 when we go and he's like a lot of kids (a picky eater) the kids menus are ideal but the adult ones are not including the price! Has anyone experience of whether Disney stick to these ages or are we going to have to eat counter service all the time?

If they know the child's age then they are likely to charge you accordingly. Some people have lied to get child prices, personally I did only once on my first visit, but I felt so guilty and felt I was giving the wrong message to my daughter, I never did it again.

Sorry, it's annoying I know but unless you feel comfortable lying, I think you'll just have to bite the bullet and pay up.

in buffets and character meals, they will certainly charge you the adult price.....i don't think there is any way to get around that....

however, in regular sit-down restaurants, if you mean that he will want to order off the children's menu, i don't think they'll have a problem...
at least that's true in my experience....
my kids sometimes ordered off the childrens menu well into their late teens...
when they wanted PB&J, which is only on the children's menu...
they never gave us a problem with that....

It's not just the cost issue (although that it very annoying), he's on the autistic spectrum and he will just not even try something different. He will only eat the usual kids meals, hot dogs, nuggets etc. Trouble is the rest of us have to go without the pleasure of trying somewhere new to keep him happy! That sounds like I'm moaning about him - I'm not, he's gorgeous but the rest of the family have to be considered too.

You can always order off the children's menu - even an adult can - but you may well have to pay adult prices. But if you explain - if you feel you want to - you may be charged a childs rate.

if your son has autism you can get one of the little cards from disney services to say that he is autisitic and that will allow you certain priveledges maybe you can see if it will allow you to buy him childrens rather than adult meals.. you can only ask, and they can only say no, but if you dont ask you dont get :goodvibes
let me know how you get on cause i have similiar problem with child who has (awaiting confirmation that he has..) aspergers..
thanks

you should get the Guest Assistance Card from guest services.......
but in any case, all you have to do is tell them that he's autistic and they'll let him order from the children's menu. My kids aren't autistic, but there were times that was all that was available at the restarant that they could eat. And so they ordered from the children's menu.
In fact, on many occasions i've ordered from the children's menu (i'm a very strict vegetarian and sometimes PB&J is the only thing that works for me).
They really don't mind at all.

But in any case, you should get the special card, regardless of the food issue.

Thanks for the advice. Regarding the card indicating a child is autistic - do you have to get a note from the Docs? I wonder how they feel about doing that. I've read about other parents obtaining these cards because their children don't like queues or crowded areas, we don't have that problem, just the food side of life!!! As long as we can order from the kids side of the menu we'll be happy. :yay:

p.s. What's PB&J

Thanks - I wondered if it meant that. Is it just me but it sounds revolting. Sorry if anyone likes it, never tried it myself, maybe I should you never know what you're missing.

i think most non-americans consider it revolting.....
but alas i'm an american and like most americans, grew up on it...
possibly an acquired taste....

you don't want to ask me what i think of marmite... ;)

and getting back to Peanut Butter....we used to make all sorts of strange sandwiches when we were little...
the most traditional peanut butter and jelly sandwich is peanut butter with grape flavored jam.....that's the classic...
but we'd go kind of nutty (so to speak)....we'd put just about everything with peanut butter, and some of it even tasted good (the best of the non jam combos: peanut butter and banana.....sounds revolting too i suppose...but really good)..

and then there were the people who ate it with marshmallow fluff, which makes me turn green just to think about it...but i never went in for marshmallow fluff, so....

anyway....enough of my PB&J nostalgia....

as for the guest assistance card, yes i believe you do need a note from your doctor, but others here would know the answer for sure...

My mum used to make me PB and tomato sandwiches - I still love them today and I am now 47! I think you can buy a PB and chocolate spread in the supermarkets in the UK now.

I love PB and Marmite (but not together ;) ) but sandwiches have to have butter or margarine on them before the filling

if you want a great peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich (according to my son, our resident PB&J connoisseur), they're available in WDW.....made by smuckers i think.....
they're peanut butter and grape jelly on white bread (only white bread is a proper pb&j) with the crust removed.....

my son flipped when he saw those at WDW for the first time a number of years ago.....i think we were staying at the yacht club concierge and they would bring out a tray of them at 5 PM....he was in seventh heaven.....and looked forwards to those silly sandwiches all year...(dreamed about them even).....

Beth - I loved your reminiscing ( is that spelling correct?). As for marmite we live where it is made and love it! If we're going onto strange sarnies - bananas and a little sugar is a kickback to my childhood. Happy eating! :rotfl2:

It's got to be brown sugar with bananas :teeth:
