I am trying to book a flight from Buffalo to Fort Lauderdale for my family of five in April. I can't believe the cost of the flights, it's crazy expensive. Do you think Southwest or Jet Blue will drop their prices before April?

:) I have been pricing flights with all carriers out of New Orleans, Gulfport, Mobile and Pensacola for flights to Orlando for the last four weeks several times a day. The prices haven't moved much. The best I can do is SW direct from New Orleans for about $252 a person RT or out of Pensacola through ATL for $225 a RT ticket. DH needs to decide is he is willing to pay that or we drive. It was a few dollars cheaper to fly out on a Saturday, than Friday or Sunday. Then we have the added cost of an extra night in Orlando. :confused3

Mobile is always twice a much so it is out of the question. The Gulfport flight times are not as good.

Well, Delta seems to have a flight for $266 r/t, departing 4/19 returning 4/26 (OP didn't give dates, so I guessed). That's cheap - given what the PP is paying to fly a fraction of the distance!

We live in Oakville as well and family of 5. We don't limit ourselves to Buffalo. We go where the best deals are. We have flown out of Pittsburgh and Detroit as well. I see $199.00 nonstop flights with taxes out of Detroit with Delta to FLL in April. You don't give your dates of travel though. This year for March break we are flying out of Youngstown, Ohio for $44.00 one way to St. Petes Clearwater airport. It was $124.00 rt with taxes. For 4 tickets it was $496.00 since my son is in College so he has a different break.
I do see $99.00 one way out of Niagara Falls, NY - Miami with Vision Airlines leaving Apr 10 - return April 17. Total for 5 tickets $1111.50. Spirit now flys out of Niagara Falls as well to Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks everyone. My dates are April 9-16 or we leave a day early and fly out on the 8th. I will look into nearby airports, I did notice prices from Detroit seemed quite a bit cheaper. Driving to Detroit beats driving all the way down to Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks. I will check out Vision and Spirit airlines. I am not familiar with these airlines.

I have been looking for the last month and noticed prices have not really changed that much, I am holding out for a better deal.

With the economy slowly getting better, more people flying, with the number of flights and seats reduced, the days of super deals maybe over........or al least much fewer of them available.:sad2:

As mentioned, your best bet might be checking for flights out of Niagara Falls airport - Spirit non-stop to Fort Lauderdale or Vision Airlines direct to Miami with a stop (but no plane change) in Fort Walton Beach. Beware of Spirit's numerous fees, though.

THank you to the poster that mentioned flying out of Detroit. I live in Pgh and need to take my dog to the breeder's to board in Clevland. I was planning on just doing a 5 hour round trip the day before the trip. In theory I could drop the dog and keep going to Detroit. I use to live there so added bonus could stay with a friend and catch a flight the following morning. Same driving time yet MUCH cheaper!!!!!! I really want SW though and no SW from detroit. If I can't get a price that is decent from SW the detroit option is outstanding! Talk about thinking outside the box....
