Just curious what your child's orthodontist charges for a new upper and lower retainer? My DS lost his and the ortho office wants $300 for a new set  I called around and found an office that will make a set for $200. I am in the Chicago area, so if anybody can recommend a place with a better price, please let me know asap. Thank you.

$300 sounds about right for wire retainers. Have you checked into the cost for plastic retainers? Or can he use the plastic ones he got while they were making his wire ones?

$300 does sound right. To replace just an upper wire retainer it cost me $150 in Central IL.

My DD worlks for our ortho...and we are in Naperville just west of Chicago. Just asked her and she says that is pretty much the range...our ortho sets fees individually and on a case by case basis, but replacement costs are pretty standard. Brackets run $40 each here too, (after 6 free ones) just to give you another item to judge by.
She just started working for him about 3 months ago...so that would be a current price.

Im here in Texas and the initial wire ones were included in the price of the braces... replacements are $100 for upper and $100 for lower..

I just paid $ 159 for my bottom one to be replaced. My ortho charges $340 to replace a whole set. The 1st set is included with the price of the braces.

DD16 just got her top braces off and was advised that it would be $150 to replace the upper retainer if she lost it. Lower braces come off this week and I expect that it will be pretty much the same price to replace that one as well. Makes for a good incentive to go dumpster diving if they should toss the retainer with their school lunch!

Thanks everyone for your reply. I just found out there are two types of retainers :confused3 The plastic style ($200) is if you don't have any molar issues. My DS16 needs the wire kind (more expensive) because his 12-year molars are still coming in, although he did get his wisdom teeth removed. Anyway, I asked his ortho for a discount and he's taking $70 off ($230). He was probably willing to do that since all 3 of my kids had/have braces through him.
