If I want to try VQ but don't get it, is it usually too late to purchase a LL for the same day?

You can probably get it if it isn't busy and you buy immediately- but realize it will most likely be for a time late afternoon or night. Here's the Thrill Data on GOTG LL.

You can also try for a VQ at 1 PM if you have entered Epcot before 1 PM. You don't need to be in Epcot at 1 PM, just that you have entered the park. You can also try for a VQ at 6 PM on nights where Epcot has EEH if you are staying a Deluxe resort of DVC.

When I look at that webpage, it looks to me like day-of LLSPs were readily available at 7:00 only on December 17-19 over the last month.

thank you for the Thrill Data. I keep seeing those posted but it didn't really mean anything to me until I asked this questions. Now I understand it!
See below, looks like the 8am 30 day sell-out at the top of the page is skewed data due to Dec. If you're good with a VQ though the 1pm is usually much easier to snag than the 7am.

Good catch! That must have skewed the 30 day data to get the 8:11am average sell-out

The Thrill Data webpage for Tron shows an average sellout time of 8:53 over the past 30 days, but the Lightning Lane Availability Map shows only sporadic availability daily. That is not surprising. The LLSP for Tron typically sells out days before. I don't think Thrill Data knows how to deal with attractions that sell out before day-of when computing average sell-out time.

If riding Guardians is important to you - buy the LLSP. Now, I was there Thanksgiving week so YMMV but, even with a resort stay and being able to book 7 days out, my first Epcot day was a later LL. I arrived on a Sunday and my first Epcot day was Wednesday. For that day, I was already well past 3pm for the earliest return time I could get. My Friday return time was 9:15am. The LLSP for this ride do tend to go quickly. If you want to ride but your day won't be ruined if you don't get on, then wait for the VQ. Personally, I have decided that I will just cough up the money for the LLSP for my planned Epcot days. I truly hate paying for something that once was free, but this is the way it is and I have accepted that I will have to pay for LLSP and LLMP for some parks.

We were there Jan 3 and had purchased the LLSP 7 days prior. It was sold out same day. We also failed to get a VQ for it both trying at 7 am and 1 pm. This was our first VQ fail in probably 20 tries. If we had not purchased the LLSP beforehand we would not have been able to ride (like the family standing near us at the 1 pm attempt who also failed and had not bought the LLSP). So if it is really important you ride, just purchase the LLSP. If you get a VQ then you get a bonus ride that day.

The VQ wait is also pretty crazy long. I get the SP because I don’t like the VQ hour wait. I have a non rider DH
