When I checked an online menu, it looks like all they have for kids is mini corn dogs and salad! (with grapes, carrot sticks or applesauce?!?!) :O Is that current? Um... and sugar-free jello for dessert?!?! what's the point? LOL

I wondered the same thing. At most CS, the choices for kids are hot dogs, chix fingers or PB&J. Mine does not eat any of those things- he usually wants a pizza or would like baken chicken or ribs. Does a kid HAVE to order off the child menu at counter service when on DDP?

I think that the kids choices are a bit small. I really think Disney should do what a lot of other restaurants do and just make them smaller portions of the food rather than completely limit them.

when we went last september I was worried when we got to cosmic rays... how was I going to hand my kid a puny plate of chicken nuggets while I chowed down on a full sized giant yummy burger

they let me order a burger for my kid...

I sure hope they are that nice this year

We have been 3 times in the last 18 months all with DDP and we have only ordered "kids meals" 2 or 3 times - all being times with the kids wanted something off the kids menu. DDP as it presently is written simply credits for x number of counter service meals and does not specificy child/adult. At table service obviously the kids order from the kids menu but at counter service typically my husband or I is sitting down with the kids while the other goes to get the food. If the kids are really hungry or don't like the food on the kids menu we will order from the adult menu for them. Typically that is more food than they need though so we do a lot of sharing -

We have made the most of our by sharing a lot of meals. Cosmic Ray's is a great example. The chicken and ribs plate is my daughter and husband's favorite meal and they share 1 plate while my son and I share the chicken strips or burger. That is plenty of food for the 4 of us. At other resturants like the McDonalds type place in AK - we typically order the 10 piece chicken nugget meal and let the kids share that, using 1 cs instead of 2.

Now - I don't know how "right" this is and please don't yell at me if you disagree with what we have done. My honest intention is to not waste food. We love the dining plan as it allows us to eat at many resturants we wouldn't be able to afford to othewise - but it is too much food for all of us. Acutally, when leaving WDW in Feb. because of the way that we use our cs meals we had about 10 left over that we had not been able to use. We ended up "buying" lunch for the family that was behind us in line at our last lunch just to use some of them up...but even with that we left several unused. I would rather do that then waste food all week long. That is just me though.

From reading the new DDP description for 2008 it sounds like that will not be allowed anymore and that kids will be designated as kids so you'll have x number of counter service adult meals and x number of counter service kids meals.

Officially, yes. Any child under 10 on the DDP (paying child's prices) has to order off the children's menu when available. I know that some places (pizza planet comes to mind) don't have a children's menu, and then they would be entitled to an adult's meal.

Now, what a particular CM will or won't let you order is a different story, but that would be on a case by case basis.
