Cosmetic dentistry / bonding or veneers, anyone have them?

Any problems? Are you happy with them? How many did you get? If you don't mind, how much did they cost? Were there any additional costs? Is bonding similar, but less expensive?

I just made an appointment for an evaluation/estimate, but I'd like to get some opinions before I go. I'm afraid I'm going to be sticker shocked.

I see we are from the same state, so hopefully the price our office charges will be close to what you can expect to pay.
Porcelain veneers will be of higher quality and will usually look better also. Resin bonding will not be as high quality and will be a good deal cheaper. I have found that Veneers also last alot longer. Around here (the Middle Georgia area) You can expect to pay around 200.00 per tooth for resin bonding and 750.00 per tooth for a porcelain veneer.

My brother has two porcelain veneers on his front teeth. He has had them since he was fourteen years old - he is now 33 and has never had any problem out of them. You absolutely can not tell that they are veneers.

Can I ask where your office is located? I am about 25 miles northeast of Atlanta.

If you're interested....When I was a kid, I had a piece of my gum removed between my two front teeth so that they would move together. I am now 38 and I have had perfectly straight teeth until about two years ago. The two teeth have turned in at the top and out a little at the bottom leaving a bottom gap. When I bite into an apple, my teeth leave a wide V mark if that makes sense. I don't feel that a whole mouth of braces is necessary, so I'm hoping veneers might help????

Any ideas? Thanks!!!

My office is located in Milledgeville GA, about 75 miles south of Atlanta (this is my Dad's practice). My brother's practice is in Dunwoody - about 15-20 miles north of Atlanta.


It sounds like you had a maxillary frenectomy as a child, this allowed your teeth to grow in straight without a gap. Let me ask you something, when was your last dental check-up? The reason I am asking is because I am familiar with the pattern of movement your teeth have taken.

Also, are these teeth loose at all?

Veneers always sound wonderful in concept, but you should also consider all options available. Sounds like you don't like the idea of orthodontic braces, but they may actually be the best solution for your teeth. I am an adult in full braces, and I am surviving! Also your bite may have problems if your front teeth are going crooked which may underlie other problems. Also to get veneers, part of your underlying tooth structure is destroyed.

So maybe visit an orthodontist, too, just to see what else is out there. Check all choices before making a decision. Good luck!

I've had six porcelain veneers for sixteen years. They still look great and helped to fill in the gaps between my skinny teeth. If your teeth are moving, you might want to get that addressed first. They cost $200 per tooth. What a bargain. Now they're about $600.

My last check up and cleaning was in January. The dentist always tells me my teeth are good and strong, and when I mentioned my concern about a year and a half ago, he recommended an orthodontist whom I went to for a consultation. The orthodontist was brief, he gave me a price and said I would have them on for 2 years and that was about it. Oh, I still have my wisdom teeth, but the orthodontist said that it wasn't necessary to have them taken out before braces.

I don't remember all the details, so this may be incorrect, but I think the older dentist I had when I was a kid thought if you pulled certain baby teeth at certain times, your adult teeth would grow in straighter. I remember having teeth pulled to "make room". I have a small mouth so maybe that was the reason? Do you think having the maxillary frenectomy was a mistake?

It's good to hear that veneers can last 16 years! Honestly, I am looking for a quick fix, but if my teeth are still moving, I see how it may not be an option. Thanks for all the insight!
