I will be in San Diego in April with my 3 girls aged 7,8 and 11, I was thinking after our day at the zoo we could have dinner at the Corvette Diner. I notice they don't take reservations-

Do you have to line up?
What sort of wait should i expect?
Will it be easy enough to get a taxi back to our hotel in Old Town?

Thanks for your help

OHMYGOSH I LOVE CORVETTE'S!!! The wait can get pretty busy, so you might want to go early to avoid the crowds or to get your name down. It's so much fun and the waitresses/waiters are truely characters. Sometimes you can even request a song for the DJ to play, but of course they're all oldies. And my favorite part of going to Corvette's: getting Bazooka bubble gum at the end! As you can see, Bazooka is my favorite gum. For a taxi, you would probably have to call one to pick you up.

My sister just took her family there on her recnet trip. She said there was a short wait but it is not to be missed. Give it a try , it sounds fun!

I wouldn't call Hillcrest (where the Corvette Diner is located) "downtown" - I think the Zoo is actually a little closer to downtown than the Diner is. Still, it's all relatively close together - I'd say the Diner is 2-3 miles north and a little west of the Zoo. Easy drive from there. Parking is the biggest hassle, but the Diner has valet parking, or there's a parking garage across the street.

I think if you get there early (before 6:00) you won't have much (if any) of a wait.

I agree. Hillcrest is not downtown. Anytime before 6PM shouldn't be too bad of a wait. Weekends will be busier. It will be easy to take a taxi back to Old Town, but probably expensive...

I was rather disappointed in Corvette's. We recently went on a Sunday afternoon as a break from the zoo. It was a pretty easy drive 5-10 minutes. However, it wasn't nearly as 'fun' as I had hoped it would be. The only interaction we had with our waitress was that she threw straws at us when we first sat down, and then threw the bubblegum at the end. No other fun interaction and hardly verbal at all. She knew it was an event for us by the was I took pictures of my kids and the place. etc, but still nothing from her. There was no DJ. The waitstaff did 'perform' to one song, but they all looked like bored teenagers and there was no personality. The food was okay. I would advise to not go in with high expectations.
