Anyone ever had this done? Do you mind sharing pros and cons...I am considering doing this in both my knees before our Disney trip. Doctor suggested, but right now he is having me try Prednisone 40 mg and Arthrotec to see if that alleviates SOME of the pain. I have had in my feet before and it did help but it wasn't fun :scared1:

I have to say if I knew it was completely painless I wouldn't hesitate but I also know if it would help I should just be brave and do it. To be honest I just hate my knees :rotfl: getting older with these knees is just not so much fun...

I've had one due to tendonitis. That shot hurt like CRAZY!!!! :scared1: BUT it REALLY helped!!!! :thumbsup2

My dad gets them every summer before they head down to Florida.

He is the toughest man I know, and they hurt him... But it's worth it, he feels so much better afterwards!

:confused3 You both have got me confused. I've had them in my knees and shoulders several times and it never hurt. The shoulders didn't work, because they were so damaged they couldn't find the 'spot'. The knees felt a little yucky, gross for a short while, but I could tell the difference right away.

I thought the only downside was, that you could only do cortisone so many times into the joint.

Mine hurt like CRAZY! They put the needle in and basically wiggle it around to get the meds wherever they want it....that does NOT feel good! (location can make a difference, I had one in my wrist that hurt but not nearly as painful as the one in my knee)

Oh, yes, they hurt like everything. But mine didn't help at all.

I had one done last month. The surgeon I am seeing did it. He sprayed the area with something to numb the knee and then kept spraying the whole time the shot was in the knee. Hardly felt anything. I almost:scared1: when I first saw the needle. But it was ok.

I have had them and I think the pain really depends on you and your pain tolerance. It was a rather large needle and my DR also wiggled it around to get the medicine in the right area. I thought it was uncomfortable but I have certainly had worse pain. It did help so I thought it was worth it.

Ok I made the mistake of watching it on You Tube....majority of you said it helped. I realize all is different for problems, but approximately how long did it last and how many days after shot did you start to feel some relief?

My appt. Is for April 19 one week before we leave for Disney so I. Am hoping or rather praying it will work.

I didn't think it hurt so much but it caused a hemmorage for me. I know a guy who had a stomach hemmorage after one. Also, if you are borderline diabetic, it can really mess with your sugar count. And-there is no guarantee it will work, after all that. I would get one prior to vacation to make sure any side effects were under control before I left.
Both my knees are bone on bone. I'm putting off the surgery because I'm so young. The shots are not an option for me due to the bad reactions. I'm no longer travelling to WDW and IF I decide to go, I'll be renting an ECV-and I'm sure someone will hate me for it because I'm not obviously injured.:sad2:

We had a thread going on this very subject a few days ago. The OP asked about something other than synvisc(sp?). Many suggested cortisone shots. My Mom was very elderly, but they helped her tremendously, and the synvisc didn't help at all. She was getting the cortisone shots every few months, which is generally not suggested, but she was not a candidate for surgery. It was decided that since she wasn't diabetic, that she could keep getting them. Eventually, they didn't help.

I think I'd get the shots. One week ahead should be fine. Your knees will either: feel fine immediately, feel better within days, or you'll feel no improvement. But one week later, you shouldn't have any lingering effects from the injections.

Good luck!
