Good morning! I am planning a Breakfast shower for my future DDIL. I am used to ordering corsages for the Bride to Be but I have to say that my future DDIL does not strike me a the type of woman who would feel comfortable with a conventional corsage. I thought of a wrist corsage but was hoping that you might have some suggestions for me.

DS and DDIL are having a Fall wedding but her shower is on Saturday. Her wedding flowers include hydrangeas and her colors are chocolate and pink. I am not worried about keeping to the theme because the shower is at a B&B in town and will be decorated with flowers from the gardens.

I appreciate all of the help you can give me!

Hmmm... I have to say I have not seen any corsages on the bride at bridal showers in the last few years. Do you think she would wear flowers in her hair? Because that might be a more modern take on the gesture of giving her a corsage (which is a lovely one!). Something simple and chic like a single orchid could be very pretty.

Otherwise, what about a bouquet or a plant to take home? If she's a cook, maybe a cute container of herbs would work as decor at her seat and something useful for the kitchen.

Thanks Lurkyloo! My DD told me that a corsage is outdated. I think I will just pick up a little herb plant. Her Mom gave her a shower in their hometown and she started a recipe file with recipes from all of the guests. I tucked a card from the file and asked guests to add to her collection so your idea will be perfect!

Oooh—a recipe file is a great idea too! People always share their best stuff! :cutie:

My DSIS Il is sharing her "butterkraut" recipe. My DS loved my sauerkraut until he had Susan's. He told me that mine was good but hers was the best he ever had. I hope that folks remember and share these kinds of recipes.

My girls got me the Minnie bridal ears to wear at my shower. You usually do not see flowers anymore but I did get a corsage for my DH sister at our wedding.

When my younger son married he bought corsages for his aunts. I asked Donny to do this for his wedding day. Now I wonder if this is outdated as well. He and Anna will have a vase with assorted long stemmed roses in memory of those family members who are no longer her to celebrate their day with them. Do you think that a single flower for each Aunt is a good idea instead of a corsage?

My DS explained to Anna the his family is opinionated and that they should listen to what we ask...............and then they could do whatever they want. :thumbsup2 He is right, this is their day and we don't take it personally but Anna is trying to please me and I don't want to ask her to do anything that is out of date and she is too polite to tell me.

I am sure his aunts would love to get a corsage for his wedding. It will make them feel special. Like I said, I did get one for my DH's sister. She was not in our bridal party but her grandson was our ringbearer. My DH's sister walked their father in to our ceremony. I got a wrist corsage so she did not have to pin it on her dress. I would not give them the single flower as you are doing single flowers for those that have passed it might make them feel in the same class.

Even though corsages are not as "in" as they used to be I am sure your future DIL would appreciate a wrist corsage.

I'm so old-fashioned - I definitely wanted a corsage for my bridal shower. To help make it a little more contemporary, my maid of honor bought me the blingy corsage in this picture. It matched my wedding colors and I loved it. It can clip on to clothes, hair, purses, etc.

I really like the alternative suggestions, too, such as the fresh flower for her hair or the herb planter. We included recipe cards in my shower invitations and I'm so glad we did this! I love having all of the recipes, especially the one from my grandma who just recently passed away (she's standing next to me in the picture). One of my other guests is battling terminal cancer, and her recipe card is really meaningful to me, too. Just seeing these recipes written down in their own handwriting is such a special remembrance. We also circulated a bridal shower scrapbook / photo album that served as a guestbook. Everyone wrote a bit of advice for the bride and groom. My shower was a year ago and just last month, I finally finished adding all of the photographs. I LOVED reading through everyone's comments again.

People still do corsages for weddings; it's wedding showers that seem to have dropped the tradition. I'm with Linda—I think his aunts would probably love to receive corsages at the wedding, and they'll be easier to manage than a single flower stem, which they'd have to cart around. :thumbsup2

I love your photo! That corsage is awesome! Donny and Anna are asking guests to share little stories or anecdotes. She is putting some kind of note thing on the tables for everyone.

I still have not written my recipe, :rolleyes1

Thanks Ladies! I appreciate the help!
