I went to a consultation yesterday for laser surgery after years of thinking about it and I have been told I am suitable and I am booked in to have it done. I have very bad eyesight, about -9 in both eyes and I have worn glasses since I was 4 years old so this is going to be a massive thing for me.

i had both my eyes done about 7years ago, my only regret is that i didn't do it sooner !

I got my eyes done two years ago had to wear glasses all the time took my little boy swimming and lost the contact lens in the water could not drive home it was horrible made an appointment at the clinic best thing I ever did love going swimming now not worrying about glasses or contacts.

A friend from work had this done a year ago and it s been fab for her. We are very strictly regulated at work about eyesight and the docs have had no problems with it at all :)

Had my eyes done 7 years ago and it was amazing. Now when I wave at somebody across the street I do actually know them! :lmao:

I have an appointment on Saturday to get mine checked.

They're not really really bad - -3, but i only have about 20%vision in my left eye - and both are shortsighted.

The optician said my eyes develped very strangely, and he has only seen a couple of other cases where people developed shortsightedness and weren't born with it - or something like that. I can only see the very big letter with my left eye but can see a couple of rows below with my right - even if I have to squint!

Its just the two words that scare me...
LASER and EYE!!!
Somehow it seems wrong to use them in the same sentence!!:scared1:

Here's looking forward to Sat.

I've had both my eyes done in 1997. My eyes were about -6.5

Best thing I ever did :) I found things like being able to read the alarm clock, being able to see my kids in a swimming pool and being able to buy normal sunglasses really made a big difference.

Good luck.
I am nervous and excited at the same time, I can't wait to go on holiday in September glasses free. Its costing me more than any holiday I have ever been on though, however once they said I could have it I had to go for it. I can't wait to buy sunglasses, I never worn them before as I only had presciption ones with thick lenses.

I have worn contact lenses for over 20 years now, but i always tend to take them out when I get home and wear my glasses in the evening. I hate wearing my lenses to the cinema, but really dont like wearing my glasses out unless I HAVE to!!! Bu they are reactalight (sp??) lenses so i can drive in the sun with them.

I must admit it would be lovely to be able to see the alarm clock without being 2" away, and to swim everyday without worrying about getting water in the goggles!

My BIL had his done last summer - he was -6 - and they were going sailing round the world so was worried about losing his glasses overboard.
He's had no problems.

If my dad can go for it at 72 i'm sure I dont have too much to worry about.

Here's to Saturday!

DH had corrective laser eye surgery in both eyes in 1996. Back then it was very new, very painful (won't go into the details:scared1: but it resulted in 72hrs in the dark and a week in bed for each eye) and you had to wait six months between each eye - DH had to wear one contact lens for six months:lmao:
He has never looked back. I'm guessing he's probably one of the oldest "converts" you'll find, so if it's any help, he's still okay:thumbsup2

Where are you having it done? I had mine done recently, i used to be approx -4.50 and couldn't see a lot at all without my glasses, to be honest glasses never sharpened me up too much either. It is the best thing i have ever done and now have a vision of around 6/4 uncorrected (20/20 or 6/6 is what they call normal vision so i am better).

I actually used to work for a leading Corneal Specialist who teaches and performs both corrective eye laser surgery (LASIK and LASEK) as well as the clear lens extractions so have picked up quite a lot of info about this type of procedure whilst i worked with him.

As long as you are going to a reasonable clinic and having a fully qualified Consultant (make sure you check his/her CV) you will never look back and be so glad you had it done.

I had mine done last August, and it has been fab, I had a dodgy recovery as I suffered some swelling and my eyes watered a lot but my vision is fantastic and I couldn't ask for more really. Good luck! :)

I was wondering how you were getting on! You had yours done the day after me! My distance vision is brilliant and I love not relying on specs but I wish my near vision was as good, the optician recommended some cheap over the counter specs but TBH they make me worse! I still reach for my glasses on occasions even now all these months later.

I have checked my surgeon out and I am happy with his experience and qualifications. The optician was honest with me and said I may be one of the few that need more laser surgery in a few months due to my high presecption.

I had mine done 5 years ago - ready for our first trip to Florida - its great! I kept walking round our local Asda reading all the signs:rotfl:

Hi Wendy - I didn't realise you were Lizzy lemon on here! :goodvibes I'm doing well, as you know I had some issues straight after the surgery but now it's brilliant, at WDW in January to be able to see on the coasters and see the kids in the pool etc etc was just fantastic. I'm so pleased that I overcame my fears and went ahead with the surgery! :lmao:

My friend (dizzyredhead83) had some trouble with her distance vision after she has her surgery and she had some over the counter specs to correct which she thought made her worse. She had hers "touched up" last month and re lasered. She is doing well now though and has great vision as she posted earlier.

We were a right pair weren't we, you swelled up like an eye balloon because of your reaction to been poked and i am a rare dodgy healer. Who would have thought that healing too fast was a bad thing! So glad "God" topped me up using that stuff to slow down my healing because it is great now. Also glad "god" did it because if i'd had it done on the high street i would have been in a pickle with my quick healing because they wouldn't have been able to fix it.

Hi everyone,

I'm deep in thought about having my eyes done.

Any recommendations on who/ where?

Cheers,

KV

Gems and I had ours done at The Midland Eye Institute in Solihull, it isn't a high street clinic it is a private ophthalmology surgery so all doctors that you deal with are consultants specialising in various eye complaints. The consultant who deals with the refractive surgery is Professor Sunil Shah, who is very good and has a lot of high streets recommending complex cases etc to him. He is actually a leading Corneal Specialist so he deals with this field not only for refractive surgery. He also teaches!

I would be very careful with the high street clinics, i am not saying they are bad, but you really need to be careful as they are very good with lingo but not all the consultants who perform the surgery are specialists in a corneal field and so although they are good ophthalmologists they may not be as trained in this field if anything were to happen (in my case i am a fast healer, which was unforeseeable and had to be slowed down) so really check them out! I have seen a couple be referred to Prof Shah from outside clinics following surgery. Don't get me wrong there are some good clinics and surgeons out there just check your info!
