Gems and I had ours done at The Midland Eye Institute in Solihull, it isn't a high street clinic it is a private ophthalmology surgery so all doctors that you deal with are consultants specialising in various eye complaints. The consultant who deals with the refractive surgery is Professor Sunil Shah, who is very good and has a lot of high streets recommending complex cases etc to him. He is actually a leading Corneal Specialist so he deals with this field not only for refractive surgery. He also teaches!

I would be very careful with the high street clinics, i am not saying they are bad, but you really need to be careful as they are very good with lingo but not all the consultants who perform the surgery are specialists in a corneal field and so although they are good ophthalmologists they may not be as trained in this field if anything were to happen (in my case i am a fast healer, which was unforeseeable and had to be slowed down) so really check them out! I have seen a couple be referred to Prof Shah from outside clinics following surgery. Don't get me wrong there are some good clinics and surgeons out there just check your info!

I have checked my surgeon out and I am happy with his experience and qualifications. The optician was honest with me and said I may be one of the few that need more laser surgery in a few months due to my high presecption.

My niece had hers done in two stages as she had a very high prescription but it all went well and she has never regretted it.

Hi Wendy - I didn't realise you were Lizzy lemon on here! .

Must have been the other forum we spoke on then! So long ago I can't remember! When I first joined the dibb I thought I had to have a different name - its not till I realised that I recognised a few names the mistake I'd made!!!! We are going back to WDW in July and its was the thought of swimming with the dolphins at DC and not being able to see properly that prompted me into going for laser treatment. One of the best things I ever did. Glad to hear everything sorted itself out for you and your friend.

Thanks - they said I was one of the higher prescriptions they will treat and they don't do many and that most can see a little without their glasses anyway.

When are you booked in for?
I had mine done in August and on Saturday I went to remove my glasses! I guess it's just habit after having them for so long!

2 weeks today, I have been told its going to get some getting use too, my DD age 7, is not so happy with getting it done at the moment as shes not used to me without my glasses and she says I will look weird,so I told her I will not need to call her into find my glasses when I knock them of my bedside draw to find them and I will be able to get on and off rollercoasters without her guiding me in and out of the seat.

Not during the procedure but afterwards I was in quite a bit of pain with swelling and soreness. The thing to remember is that everyone heals differently and you could have no pain at all.

Just make sure that you use your drops exactly as directed and you will be fine, have you got an ice pack that you can use? I used one for 10 minutes out of every hour and it really helped to take down swelling and just make it generally more comfortable.

Just found this thread so checking up to see how you are doing. Glad it all went well and hope you feel fully recovered soon. Sounds like a whole new lease of life sight wise.

I am almost back to normal now, the brusing still there however I was told it will take a couple of weeks to go down, can use the computer and read, my optician gave me some gel for dry eyes and it really helps. I've had lots of after care appoitments. I had to change some of my prescription drops as they increased the pressure in my eye which is one of the side effects of the drops. I panicked a bit as my vision went really blurry however since my optician changed the drops its fine. I am amazed at how quick the whole thing was, going from not been able to see anything to having clear vision. can't wait to go to WDW glasses free!
