We just got back from a 3 night/4 day stay at CSR. It was our first time to stay at CSR (2 children 4 and 10 and my spouse). The resort came highly recommended as an excellent and economical resort. On the front end, I would like to add that after booking the resort, I came across several negative reviews and strongly considered booking another resort. I am so glad that I did not. In reading another person's review of a disney resort, on this and other forums, I think it is really critical to know what their expectations were going in and whether they had some sort of experience that may have negatively (or positively) influenced their opinion of the resort. For example, I think having too much of an expectation, or down grading from a deluxe, or having a bad experience in the hotel can influence one's opinion on the resort. With that said, our expectations going in were to have a nice (but not over the top) resort where we could sleep and briefly enjoy our downtime from the parks, with some ammenities. Also, I did not have a bad experience at the resort that should influence my opinion either way.

We will certainly stay here again (however, we do want to try WL one time). The resort is amazing, and I think the best way to describe it is, a deluxe caliber resort with a moderate price. The rooms were very nice and very clean and we really enjoyed having the 2 queen beds. Mousekeeping did a great job cleaning our room and we never had any issues whatsoever with appearance or cleanliness (both were amazing). I came across several negative reviews that referenced that the resort did not have a lot of disney appeal to it. I can see this issue, but to be honest, it was the opposite for us because once you got done in the parks, it was really nice to come back to the Southwestern themed resort and get away. (yes - there is disney appeal to it, but maybe not like some of the other resorts). You feel like you are at disney, but at the same time, feel like you are not - if that makes sense.

Another negative I read about the resort, was that it was too spread out. We stayed in a preferred room (Casitas 1), which I would highly recommend with younger children if you would like to be close to the lobby, bus stop, and food court. We could literally be at the lobby, food court, or bus stop in a matter of minutes. The resort is actually spread out, and if you end up in one of the rooms on the back-side of the resport, it is a fairly long walk to the lobby and food court, but on the flip-side, you are closer to the pool. As for the pool area, it is amazing and blew our kids away. The pool area is large, and has a water slide, arcade, dig-site, and playground. This is truly amazing for young kids. If you actually want to enjoy the pool area, and do not feel the need to be close to the lobby or fod court, then I would recommend staying in a non-preferred room and requesting to be on the back side of the resort close to the pool. Again, it is not that long of a walk to the lobby/food court, but it is not just right around the corner either. It also has a spa and fitness room (which we did not actually visit, but it is nice to have, if those things make a difference for you.

As for the bus stops and buses - they were amazing. I read a lot of negative reviews about the bus service at CSR. We never had a bad experience whatsoever. There are 4 bus stops around the resort, so no matter which room you stay, there is a bus stop in your area. They are exclusive to CSR also. I am not sure if we were just lucky, but at the resport and at the parks, we never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus during our 4 days, except at AK which was like a 10 minute wait at the park (which I think is a little more common for this park). The rides to the park were also very quick - we always heard, to give yourselves close to an hour to get a bus and get to the park. I, however, don't remember ever waiting more than 20 minutes to catch our bus and arrive at any of the parks.

The Pepper Market - was amazing. It was quick and had a lot of different menu selections, which should please just about anyone. One negative I read, was that Pepper Market is crowded and the food takes a while. We did not experience this. However, with most anything at disney, I think it is a matter of trying to avoid the crowds and eating a little before or after the typical lunch/dinner times to avoid having this experience.

I would highly recommend this resort - in my opinion, the difference in price from a value resort is well worth it. This is just me, but I would certainly rather stay at CSR than a deluxe. I just think the difference in overall comparison to a deluxe verses the difference in price, is not worth it. I certainly don't want this to be take the wrong way, but for us, we would rather save the money and stay at CSR.

If anyone has any questions, I will be happy to help if I can.

I have stayed at CSR 2 times - twice with the family and once when I was at a conference. I love staying threre and find it a very nice resort. I like to stay in Casita 3 area.

. my family and i are considering going back to disney in 2013. i dont know if i want to stay at another moderate or try a deluxe due to $$$$. csr so far is my favorite mod. thank you for your wonderful review

Thank you for your review. I am so glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay at the CSR. We have stayed nine times and it is our "home away from home." We missed not staying there this past September, but we had offers to good to pass up to stay DVC in September. But we will be back "home" soon.

Glad you had a great time, we like the looks of the Casitas section, but like the location of the Cabanas area.
We have the same feeling too about Mods versus Deluxes, especially since our favorite Mods POR/POFQ/CSR have added queen beds, daily pool activities and nightly movies. We will still get in a short trip to a deluxe, we want to try WL for the 1st time and CR again(been decades since our last stay there). Looked at WL with the current room only discount for March and it is $100 more per night over the price of POR or POFQ:eek:

Thanks for the review! We love CSR and think that it is a great resort for the price. The rooms (and especially the beds) are very comfortable, and my kids rank the CSR pool up with any deluxe pool. The bus service has been excellent for all of our stays at CSR.

Glad your family had a great trip!

Glad to hear you had a great stay. We will be going to CSR for the first time in March.:goodvibes

I am doing a triple stay come january. AS Music, CSR, then POFQ.
thanks for your review. both ASMusic an CSR are new for me.
I sm looking forward to it. 37 more days!

In reading another person's review of a disney resort, on this and other forums, I think it is really critical to know what their expectations were going in and whether they had some sort of experience that may have negatively (or positively) influenced their opinion of the resort. I agree 100%. Our first stay at CSR we had two separate incidences that colored our stay. One morning my mom, who usually uses an ECV down there, decided she wanted to walk to the food court. Back then they had those little carts that would pick people up. They still have them, but they're used more to just transport luggage now. Back then the CMs used to really race them around the resort. Anyway, one came racing around, just before we got to the food court heading right for us and both me and my mom had to take a nosedive off the walkway into the grass to avoid getting hit. The CM had his head down messing with some little tablet. We both round up with scraped knees and hands. Then one night we went to the Casitas quiet pool after putting our clothes into the washer in the laundry room and found some really drunk conventioneers in the pool harrassing a couple of 20 something y/o young girls who looked terrified. We escorted the girls back to their room, with one of the drunks following us and then beating on the door. We had to call security. Later when we went down to get our laundry, we had to walk past the quiet pool and they were still there, drinking and had glass bottles in the pool. Those two experiences definitely colored our opinion of CSR and we said we'd never go back. However, two people here on the DIS KatMark and Kat3668 convinced me to give CSR another try. It has round up being my favorite WDW resort and I've now stayed there eight times and will be back in May.:rotfl:

Another negative I read about the resort, was that it was too spread out.

It's no secret over on the CSR thread that I absolutely loathe the Ranchos section.:rotfl: However, even when I've been assigned to that section (last two trips--this past Sept and again just a few weeks ago in Nov/Dec), I've always been lucky enough to get a check in CM who has moved me to my beloved Cabanas.:rotfl: I've stayed in Casitas 1, Casitas 2, Cabanas 9B (twice), Cabanas 9A (twice), and Cabanas 8A (twice). To me anywhere in the Cabanas is the perfect location (close to main building, bus stop, and main pool).

As for the bus stops and buses - they were amazing. I read a lot of negative reviews about the bus service at CSR. We never had a bad experience whatsoever.

I've always said that CSR has the best bus service of any WDW resort.

The Pepper Market - was amazing.

I agree! I'm not thrilled with the new buffet pricing and liked being able to get my food to go to eat by the quiet pool, but still think it's the best CS on property

This is just me, but I would certainly rather stay at CSR than a deluxe. I just think the difference in overall comparison to a deluxe verses the difference in price, is not worth it. I certainly don't want this to be take the wrong way, but for us, we would rather save the money and stay at CSR.

I agree! May 2010 I did a split stay at AKL pool view and CSR standard (but got upgraded to a water view). The bus service was sooo much better at CSR and the beds alot more comfortable. I wish I had done the whole week at CSR. Then Dec 2010 I did another split stay at CSR and YC. Both times I booked a standard room, just to find out at check in that I had been upgraded to a quiet pool view at both. I loved the location of the YC, but the beds and buses were alot better at CSR and because the weather was so cold, I didn't get to use the pool at either resort, so that was a wash. I again wished I had done the whole week at CSR. The price difference was just not worth it.:rotfl:

Thanks for the review!! We're staying at CSR for the first time at the end of May so I love reading all I can about the resort. :thumbsup2

Great review! Thanks so much! We are staying at CSR for the first time the end of May. I was originally booked at POFQ, but switched when the discount came out. You have made me feel so much better about switching resorts!

Sounds like you had a great time!!! We are heading to CSR in April and can't wait. We love to eat big breakfasts and was hoping for more info on the Pepper Market breakfast buffet. Did you try it? And if so, how would you rate it?

Thanks!

- Rick

My favorite place in all of Disney--and I've pretty much stayed at all of them too. I will pick Coronado over the Contemporary any day of the week!

Will be back there next week and I'm looking forward to my beloved Casitas 5.

Thank you for posting this! We are trying to decide where to stay for our trip next October, and this will help narrow it down.:)

CSR Is very pretty and great to stay at, but until the food court, pepper market is changed so they stop charging for tips, I won't stay there again, That not good. :rotfl2:

I have no problem paying a tip, but not for a food court. :confused3

Great review. CSR was our resort of choice until we discover the Polynesian and the convenience of the monorail (esp for MK nuts like my DS18 and I). IMHO, for a moderate it is an excellent option.

I've seen similar remarks many times here on the Dis. Makes you wonder why Disney didn't just increase the menu prices by 10% rather than making tipping required. I'm sure there are legal issues, but still...:confused3

It has nothing to do with Disney. The restaurant is not owned by Disney and they have no say in the matter.

With the new breakfast and lunch buffet, the tip is no longer required. :yay:
