Coronado Springs Resort -- New Unofficial FAQ Thread -- October 2010

I am so sorry that I have been missing in action. We were out of town last week and I have been sick since we got home (today I feel almost normal again). On top of that, my boss just returned after a two month vacation (he is 85 and takes the summer off every year) so work has been really hectic. Therefore, my DIS time has been extremely limited.

It looks as if ALL questions have been answered by others. If something has been missed, please repost and I will try to answer in a more timely fashion. Also, as a reminder, I am leaving in 11 days for our trip to Disney, and this thread is getting close to the page limit. So keep an eye out and StitchandPoohsMom will be posting a "temporary" thread if this goes over 250 while I am gone. I will get a new one started the weekend after we get home (the weekend of October 8 and 9).

For all of you leaving soon, have a magical trip and a wonderful stay at CSR.

Hope you are feeling better!

I've been checking in daily, but the other regulars have taken very good care of any questions. :goodvibes I am lurking, though, and keeping an eye on the page count.

So excited for your trip, even though it is not at CSR! Hope you enjoy AKL and OKW! :cool1:

Thanks; I feel a whole lot better (we were with our son who lives in Iowa all of last week and he got me sick...eve when they grow up, they still give you their germs!). We are really excited about AKL and OKW, but CSR will always be "home" and we look forward to being back soon.

And, as always, I appreciate you taking care of things.

we have found a new "home"!!! We absolutely loved everything about CSR.:lovestruc

We arrived @ check in around Noon on 8/3. Our room wasn't ready yet, so we headed to the Pepper Market to have lunch. We didn't find the card/stamping thing confusing at all, but that's probably because of all of the good information we received from this thread. The food was okay... not great, but certainly not bad. As we were finishing lunch, I received a text that our room was ready!!! :cool1: We received our request of Ranchos, Bldg. 7B and were pleasantly surprised to find that we had a corner room, right next to the laundry room and quiet pool, room 7523. What a bonus to be close to both!! The room was what we expected, and we did receive 4 towel animals throughout the week. The really tickled my girls, since we weren't expecting any. My DH and I LOVED the queen beds. We are both tall (I'm 5'11" and DH is 6'1") so that made a huge difference in how we slept. Mousekeeping was wonderful... kept us well stocked and clean throughout the week. We also were just about equidistant from 2 bus stops. We typically chose stop #4 (by the Cabanas) but did use stop # 3 a few times. We had no issues catching a bus or having full buses. I think we only had to stand twice, and that was the weekend of Labor Day. The longest we ever waited was a little over 10 minutes, but that was well within our expectations. Otherwise, buses ran often.

We didn't mind the walk to El Centro from our room. It was about an 8-10 minute walk each way but it was beautiful, especially at night. We really liked all of the selections at Cafe Rix (my girls and I loved the gelato and that a small sized counted as a snack on the meal plan!). Panchitos had everything we needed, in regards to milk and other supplies. Again, we didn't need to hit El Centro too much (maybe twice), but we didn't mind being one of the further locations.

The pools... we had so much fun @ the main pool! The Jaguar slide was a big hit with all of us, and the campfires and marshmellow roasting was an added bonus. Plus, they showed movies pool side @ night starting at 8 p.m. They really had some fun things for kids/families, so we appreciated that, after busy days at the parks.

I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at CSR... we are already talking about a trip in 2013 to see the Fantasy Land expansion and renovations and plan on booking to stay here again. :lovestruc

Happy travels everyone!

Can someone tell me if the jr suites have any kind of kitchen set up? A sink, frisge , anything?

There is only the fridge that you would find in a regularly booked room. The only "suites" that have more kitchen stuff are the executive suites.

Hi, everyone. I am a new DISboards member and my husband and I will be staying at CSR for 7 nights from 2/11/12 - 2/18/12! I have read through all of the CSR posts and have found a lot of great tips and info to apply on my trip. So thank you!

I have one question about the DDP and pizza delivery. How exactly does that work at CSR? My understanding is that for 2TS credits total we get 1 pizza, 2 beverages, and 2 desserts. Is this ordered through Pepper Market? Room Service? Other? We will be going to Universal Studios Island of Adventure (just the one park) for one full day and we're planning on having a late dinner at CSR when we get back. I had planned on doing Pepper Market because it will be so late, but pizza in the room sounds appealing. I'm just confused on how to order it, etc. And, yes, I realize it is a bad use of TS credits but we are having a hard time using them all up (CS credits are far easier to use as they are more flexible!).

:welcome: to the DIS and to the CSR thread! :dance3: Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your pizza question, but someone will. I thought it was through room service, but I have no actual experience to validate that thought. ;)

Islands of Adventure is great! Plan to be there very early - Universal sometimes opens the gates early, unlike Disney who tends to open at exactly the opening time. Onsite guests have been able to enter the Wizarding World of Harry Potter an hour early (not sure if that will be extended into 2012 or not). Forbidden Journey and Ollivander's have the worst lines, so I'd plan to do those first.

There is a Universal section of the DIS for help with your IOA trip (if you need help). :thumbsup2

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am beyond ecstatic to be going to Disney World! I have only been once, which was when I was 3 so that obviously doesn't count. ;) My husband was last there about 15 years ago so hopefully it will feel like a new experience for him as well. He stayed at CSR when he went and loved it.

Thanks for the tips on Universal Studios. We will make sure and do Forbidden Journey & Ollivander's first. Honestly I'm not all that excited about Universal, but my husband is dying to see the Harry Potter section...and I guess if we're going all the way to Florida from Washington State, we may as well do it all! :cool2: We're planning on using Mears transportation to get to Universal from CSR and hopefully we can arrange to get there a little early before they open the gates. :woohoo:

Disney is my happy place, but I also love Universal. They did a wonderful job on WWOHP - it is very, very true to the books, and there are a lot of things to discover by looking around (similar to Disney - there are hidden things everywhere for people who take the time to look). Be sure to check all the shop windows and watch for the shadows of the house elves on the walls of the Three Broomsticks. :goodvibes The shops are very small - true to the books, but they can get very crowded. You are going during the off season, so you shouldn't have as much trouble with high crowds as we did during the summers.

I think I might actually prefer Seuss Landing to Fantasyland :scared1: - the attention to detail is astounding, from there being no straight lines in the entire land to Universal bringing in palm tress bent by Hurricane Andrew so the trees in Seuss Landing look Seussian. Make sure to ride One Fish, Two Fish - it looks like a kiddie Dumbo-type ride (and it is, kind of), but it is much more fun with a catchy song that we find ourselves singing for days after our trip!

Universal is definitely more about the thrill rides than Disney, but our family finds plenty of things to keep even our youngest happy for days. I find Disney to be more immersive (except for WWOHP and Seuss Landing), but Universal has great ride technology and stays true to the themes. It's just that I am not emotionally involved with some of the themes (like Marvel superhero island) like I am with Disney.

MY CORONADO SPRINGS REVIEW

the resort: we just returned last night. we were in rooms 5121 and 5122. the resort was absolutely beautiful. pictures of it do not do it justice. we were in casitas 5, close to the small pool/laundry and not too far from the dig site. we adored the resort theme and the rooms were our favorite of the moderates i.ve been to so far.

peppermarket: my family ate there 5 out of our 7 counter service meals. the food was excellent and the portions were huge.. we never found the layout or set up confusing either. it is now our favorite counter service location!

maya grill: we ate there twice-once for breakfast and once for dinner. for dinner we all had steak dinners. the service was very good and so was the food. breakfast was good too. i can not say it was our favorite restaurant of the trip but it was very good.

the dig site and casitas pools: we loved the pools. the dig site was so gorgeous. i also liked the activities by the pool both day and night. we loved the casitas pool too as it was so close to our room. we love to swim so these pools did not disappoint.

bus transportation: on 9/6 we waited 45 minutes at the casitas bus stop to go to the magic kingdom. coming home there was no wait as the bus was sitting there. on 9/7 we waited 65 minutes for a magic kingdom bus. on 9/8 we waited 50 minutes for an epcot bus in the am. on 9/9 it was a 45 minute wait to go to animal kingdom. on 9/10 a 40 minute wait to get to typhoon lagoon. honestly that week we had the worst bus service compared to any moderate we have been to.
we were at the first bus stop. i cant understand why the long waits:confused3

the staff: we found all of the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

coronado srpings is now our favorite moderate. with the exception of the bus transportation is was the best experience we have ever had. my famly would love to stay there again

I am so glad to hear that the CSR is now your new favorite moderate. :goodvibes

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Pepper Market, the pools, the activities, etc.

I am so sorry about the bus situation, however. Normally, the CSR has some of the best bus service. I've been reading a lot of complaints at a lot of resorts about the buses lately. They really need a new system for sending out buses to resorts and parks to pick up passengers, etc. (especially with the monorail no longer running during EMH's and parties, there will be a lot more people).

Thanks for coming back and letting us know how your stay was.

Glad you had a good trip, but wow - a 65 minute wait is insane! We have always had great bus service at CSR - waits typically of 5-10 minutes, but the occasional 15-20 minute wait if we just missed a bus. Did anyone (CM, bus driver, etc) give you any reason for the waits? Especially since you were at the casitas stop, it's not like the buses were bypassing the stop because they were full.

Waiting 50 minutes for an Epcot bus in the morning is crazy, too. Usually, buses seem to run about every ten minutes near park opening time, with waits more like 20 minutes in the middle of the day.

I am so glad you had a great time. Thank you so much for doing a review. We will be there in 4 days and I cannot wait. Last night I even had a dream that we were in Casitas 5 over looking at the quiet pool! Sorry the buses were bad.

Thanks for the review!!

We had good bus service at CSR last December. Never usually waited longer than 10-15mins. We always go at Christmas, this year will be our 3rd trip in 4 years. We've had great bus service at CSR and CBR at those times. I wonder if they assign extra busses to those resorts during peak time because they are the biggest? We always have good bus service at the busiest times and it seems alot of the reviews of bad bus service are at slower times. You would think it would be the opposite, so they must adjust the service at certain times.

You have me a little nervous about the buses.:scared1: I hope it was just a fluke.

HI everyone,

Well we are staying at CSR Nov15-22nd and am trying to decide if I should do a room request. My Dad is coming with us (me, DH and DD(7)) and is planning on going back to the resorts after lunch to rest and use the pool. He wants to be near a quiet pool and I would like to be near the main pool and dig site - what would be the best section for us?
