Corned Beef

IMO those pre packaged "corned beef" packages are HORRIBLE, absolutely the worst version of corned beef you can get. its like buying one the 99 cent cardboard pizzas they sell at the grocery stores, the tiny super cheap ones, and making it and saying " i hate pizza, i tried it and was horrible", well you tried the absolute WORST type of corned beef, PLEASE dont judge it by that. Go to a REAL NY style Deli and the sliced corn beef will make you cry its so good. along with its cousin Pastrami..... Please dont give up on Corned beef, it is something that is WONDERFUL, but not when it comes from a bag at the grocery store !!

reuben sandwiches are terrific! Corned beef cooked with cabbage, etc, not so much.

I love corned beef and cabbage. I also cook mine in a crockpot. And I love Reuben sandwiches. Yum!

I love corned beef and cabbage with boiled potatoes. Yum! I boil mine first and then roast it in the oven. So good!

I had one of those NYC deli corned beef sandwiches years ago. It was stacked so high-really about 2 inches thick of corned beef! It was delicious but I could barely finish half of it. And coincidentally, while DH and I were standing outside the deli wondering what to do with the other halves of our sandwiches, we saw a poor man picking though the garbage. We asked him if he wanted the rest of our sandwiches and he was so grateful!

I like deli sliced corned beef, it is really not nearly as salty as making one yourself.

I boiled it up once but was not too impressed. It's not too common around these parts though you can get pastrami in the deli section of the supermarket.

Exactly !! thin sliced corned beef from a Deli, is SO much different than the Fatty salty brisket they sell at the grocery store. I have had some good corned beef at Irish pub / bars also, but even that is a lot different than the kind at a Jewish type Deli. Recently actually i went to Vegas, in the new york, New York Hotel & Casino they have a GREAT sandwich shop , Milehigh sandwiches are about 5-7 inches of meat piled SO hight you have to eat it with a knife and fork. The meat was REALLY good, i thought it might be crappy but it was Great actually. I got the corned beef / pastrami and Swiss cheese combo and it was about 10 bucks i think. Good stuff.

My whole family loves corned beef! We cook it in the crockpot, then dip it in mustard when it's finished. It can be very salty. We love salt (I know, not good) so it doesn't bother us so much, but some seem to be more salty than others, for some reason. I didn't know they had lower sodium versions---will have to look for one. Also watch the fat content---if it's too fatty, it's nasty. NY Jewish deli's have wonderful corned beef and pastrami...put horseradish on it :thumbsup2
