Corned Beef

I made my first corned beef about a month ago. It was very salty, like you said. It was good, and it made terrific Reuben sandwiches the next day, but I probably won't bother with it again. I didn't even make cabbage with it and it stunk up the entire house for 2 days.

We couldn't even eat any of it. YUCK LOL The dogs and cats loved it

Corned beef can be salty depending on how you cook it. We always boil ours then bake it with a glaze and it's never salty.

Obviously no one on here is from the tri-state area!!! Get yourselves to Katz Deli in New York and REALLY try some corned beef.

I love it!! :thumbsup2 Especially on a reuben.. yum! DFi loves corned beef hash (it's okay) so I make it every once in awhile for breakfast with some eggs and toast.

Oh, this is my fav. dinner! Corned beef, cabbage and boiled potatoes. I boil the brisket either on the stove or in the crockpot. If I do it in the crockpot, I will add the potatoes to that. It is salty, but you can get the less sodium briskets too. Yum...we always stock the freezer with them when they go on sale at st. patricks day. They are expensive.

I always buy the 33% lower sodium corned beef. Then I rinse it well before simmering it. It comes out great that way.

Maybe I will try this. I cooked mine in the crockpot all day in beer, but I didn't rinse it and I think I added the extra packet of spices. I liked it on Reubens a lot more than fresh. They were fantastic!

Corned beef no - but I love real New York pastrami! The fattier it is, the better it tastes IMO.

I add the spice packet too, because there is no salt in that. I simmer mine on the stove just covered in water.

I love it on a reuben, otherwise I don't eat it.

wow coincidence.. just cooked one tonight.

I pressure cook mine, then put it in a rotisseire to crisp up the outside.

I fry my cabbge in butter rather than boil it.

really great stuff!!

leftovers are the greatest.. rye bread/mustard/cheese/corned beef dill pickle> wrapped in papertowel in microwave.. YUM

If I try it again. I will wash it off, maybe that will cut down on the saltiness sp?

Possibly. Personally I think corned beef is supposed to have a bit of saltyness to it. I just make mine in the crockpot with the spice packet which doesn't have any salt in it.
