I'm a southern girl born and raised in North Carolina, and we know our cornbread! HDDR has a very good, cake-like cornbread. Although some may prefer a less sweet flavor, it really is excellent. Don't forget to add a little butter... you're on vacation after all!
Boatwright's is good. It's slightly sweet and not too dense or heavy. Plus, it's just the start of what will be a good dinner with some other Southern touches that you're not likely to see in the UK.
LOL That's right! Much sweeter than what my Mom makes. She thinks it would taste good as dessert with the strawberries and whipped cream!
BTW - HOB in DTD used to have tasty cornbread too (still a tad sweet compared to a traditional version). I know they've changed their menu in the last year, and someone else on the boards suggested that the cornbread recipe isn't as yummy as it once was. Might still be worth a try though!
There is cornbread served with the salmon meal at Pop Century. I think I had that meal three times just for the cornbread. Ok, the salmon was good too.
I found a recipe online for it too when I got home so I was happy that I could make it myself. Ymm
Another vote for Whispering Canyon cornbread. It was SO good!! I told our server how much I liked it. I freaked out when she tried to take the last piece of cornbread away!
I think she did that on purpose to see my reaction, though.
House of Blues in West end at DTD has really good cornbread to me so good like a dessert. also Whispering Canyons has pretty good and Trails End as well and Cape May has cornbread on the buffet that is really good
My favorite place for cornbread is Boatwright's at POR (might have to try WCC...). It was our last stop before we drove home and I made sure to bring a ziploc bag to take some for breakfast the next morning.
Tusker House also has mealie bread, which is practically the same thing, at least to me. (not sure how different it's actually supposed to be.)
