We are going in June with friends of ours and my DBF husband has a shellfish allergy. He can't have anything cooked in the same pan/grease/pot as shellfish. Would we be safe if I called ahead and talked to the chef. The kids wanted to eat there so badly. Their 4 year old is obsessed with Nemo! Has anyone had this happen? Or if there is another thread along the same line please let me know!!

You know, I'm *sure* the Disney chefs would somehow accommodate you BUT, honestly, I don't think I would chance this. A seafood allergy can be pretty bad and the chef would have to be so careful with everything. If I had a seafood allergy, I think I would be terrified to eat there and wouldn't enjoy my meal.

My DH has the same allergy and after having a reaction from cross contamination one time that scared us to death, we don't take chances and try to avoid restaurants that serve mostly seafood.

We were fishing with shrimp at the Gulf once and he had a reaction just from touching the shrimp. His hands and ears turned very red and itched really bad. He also had swelling in his hands. He wasn't thinking (this was before the reaction) and wiped his eye. You guessed it, that blew up as well.

For the safety of your DBF's husband, I would skip this restaurant or offer to take her kids for a night so they can have a date night and you take the kids to Coral Reef. Then you and DH get a date night another night.

yeah, I have talked it over with my best friend and my Dh and I are going to take her kids to dinner one night so they can have some alone time. We don't have any children so it is always fun when we can take them out. They are completely different when their parents are not around!

I agree with those that have already responded and would pick another restaurant. I worked in a seafood restaurant for many years and I can tell you that it is not only the chef that you need to worry about when it comes to cross contamination. Everyone that touches your plate, from the dishwasher, to the plate dresser, to your server could have some sort of seafood "remnants" on their fingers/gloves that could accidently rub on another plate. As much as we never wanted to turn away business, we always reccomended that people with seafood alergies go somewhere else. Better safe than sorry!
