Coral Reef - Upping Their Game?!

We ate at Coral Reef last night against my better judgement. It's been two years since we've eaten there but the kids asked for it and we had two Epcot nights, so ..

And the crazy thing is, I really enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits. I thought it was very flavorful and good. DH liked the Mahi-Mahi. There was a problem with DD8's meal but that was mostly on us for an ordering mistake and the server went out of her way to make it right.

We even noticed (and our server pointed out) that there are a lot more fish in the tank.

Could CR be upping their game?

We've never had issues at CR. We go every other year. Foods always been good. Servers too notch and view amazing. Maybe our standards are low.

We loved Coral Reef when we were there in December. It totally eclipsed the other 8 TS meals we ate. My kids are begging to go back.

I was going to say to take people’s opinions with a grain of salt, but I really do wish I had heeded all of the Tony’s warnings. :rotfl:

We have eaten there 4 times. The first time was not very good at all. We decided to try it a second time. It was really really good the second time. We decided to go there again. Once again we had a really good meal. So ,we again last year and it was not very good at all. We are at 50% (twice it was great, and twice it was not very good). However, I'm sure we will try it again at some point. When it's good, it's really good. The Baileys & Jack Daniels Chocolate Mousse dessert is always good.

That dessert is one of the best on Disney property. Our meal there was mediocre at best, except for the mousse. It’s scrumptious. :)

We ate there in March. I'd agree with your assessment of the shrimp and grits, easily one of the tastiest things we ate in Disney. However, we weren't fans of the other two entrees we ordered (mahi mahi and the lobster mac). I know mahi-mahi is a mild fish, but it was really, really bland. I am glad, however, that you seemed to hit them on a good day!

We have almost always enjoyed our meals here. We eat here at least once a trip.

We've eaten many times at Coral Reef, even like 5 years ago when everyone was really down on it. I've always thought the fish and seafood has been very flavorful! Maybe those who book it, book it for the aquarium, but don't really like the fish and seafood menu? It's the only thing I can think of.

Eaten at Coral Reef many times and never had a bad meal/experience. My kids love the aquarium and it's a nice cool spot to enjoy a meal in Epcot on a hot day. Epcot restaurants can be a bit tough when you have picky/unadventurous eaters (I'm referring mostly to the restaurants around the World) so we find Coral Reef a nice table service option when in Epcot for lunch/dinner. I've never quite understood all the hate it gets.

My husband always asks to go and we never seem to be able to fit it in. Going to try it this trip. :)

The Shrimp and Grits is my favorite meal there, and one of my all-time favorite meals on property! :lovestruc I'd lick the plate clean if I could, but since that's definitely frowned upon, and I'm a lady, I just do a little happy dance in my chair. :cool1::rotfl:

Wondering if I should give this a shot or Biergarten for my next trip with my bf. He wasn’t impressed with Via Napoli.

I really like Biergarten, and always loved CR when I was a kid.

Ate there several times in the past and were always underwhelmed with the food. Loved the atmosphere.
Glad to hear the food is better. May have to give it another try.

We've dined at CR every trip to WDW and the food has always been good.
My only complaint is that when they remodeled years ago they removed the sound deadening material from the walls.

Well, that's good to hear, perhaps it's time to give it another go. Service has really been my issue.

I have been several times and have always found the food to be good but my problems has always been the service. Sometimes we have waited many times just for a refill.
