Coral Reef Restaurant - Diver/menu - Discontinued for 2009

I didn't want to call again and be a pest, but this would be a GREAT surprise for my mother. Her birthday is the week we are there, she got divorced over the past year, my grandpa (her father) died, and quite a few other things to make it a bad year. I'm really hoping to throw the magic out there for her on our first day with a menu with pictures of my little brother and I during our last Disney trip four years ago. :wizard:

I did have a question about that; she never asked what the sign should say?? I was going to e-mail her that when I e-mail her the pic's, but I just wanted to check to see if that's the best way. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you could choose (to a point) what the sign would say. Any thoughts?

When you email her the pictures, I'd just say "and I'd like my diver sign to read..." Again, it seems much easier to get in touch with her via email, so that would be a good way to go.
 
It took Debbi a little over 3 weeks to return my phone call. She was out of town for awhile. She said she had a lot of calls to return. I'd just give her time.
 

I was feeling the same way a couple days ago. I ended up calling her 4 times and leaving voicemails. I'm not sure if you guys have tried this, but I would call her and leave a message with your e-mail address(I did this twice.) She seems to be quicker at e-mailing ppl. as oppose to calling back (I still have never spoken to her, and probably won't.) Keep hoping, I was ready to give up when I got the e-mail last night. She seems to be the only one doing these, so I'm sure she's pretty busy, but from what I've read from other ppl, she does seem to eventually get back to everyone. I'm wishing you some pixie dust;)

I came home after a meeting and I just happened to grab my cell phone (I normally don't even look at it while I am at home) and it rings - 407....I am thinking, could it be???? I answer and sure enough it is Debbi:woohoo: She even tells me that she got me a diver :worship: I said to her all I really wanted was the menu, she said she had a slot and I got it!!! I am soooo excited. I tell her that I will email her the pictures in the morning...she says, oh don't worry, you have plenty of time :eek: Wish I could say the same....school starts Monday.
 
I'm confused...Isn't Coral reef a 1 credit restaurant? I had asked my TA about the menu thing, and she said Disney told her only a handful of 2 credit restaurants offer personalized menus.:confused3 I don't want to use up 2 credits just for a menu, know what I mean?

Anyone know??

My sign/menu experience on Monday was wonderful. The menus were really cute, and make a wonderful keepsake. We were seated right near the window where a very large turtle was resting. The divers came up halfway through our meal and showed the sign, surprising the heck out of my girlfriend.
 
For those of you who have been seated right by the aquarium, has it been the far left table? I've only ever seen this done at that table, but maybe that's just a coincidence. Thanks!
 
I have been in touch with Debbie and set up the diver. I did not email her pictures until last Friday because wasn't sure if we could go (possible strike at hubby's work). The email won't send it says I have the wrong address. :worship: If anyone has her email, please pm me so I can get this done.:flower3: I'm leaving in 12 days and I would hate to miss out on this anniversary surprise!!! TIA
 

Please don't send people Debbi's email address, even in a PM. She's asked specifically a number of times that this not be done. She would prefer to email or phone people herself in response to messages left on her voice mail. (Any unsolicited or unexpected emails go straight into her spam bin.)

If people are having trouble getting through to her via the email address she gave them over the phone, they should phone back and leave their email address for her so that she can send them an email that they can just reply to with the pics, etc.

The menu/diver isn't something that Debbi *has* to do, and it would be nice if people respected her wishes in thanks for the extra effort she goes to in making magic for us...
 
We were just there and our menu was wonderful, but they forgot the diver sign. DH spoke to the manager there who was awesome and made a new sign and contacted the dive team immediately and got them in the tank. If you still don't see your diver sign by the time you've received your dessert, it might be a good idea to check.

When we went, there was a mix-up. I asked about it when we checked in, and they said they didn't know we were supposed to have a diver (I arranged it, confirmed it, the whole deal). They said they would try to get ahold of the diver and set something up right away.
We got the wonderful personalized menu, but never ended up getting the diver. They apologized.. but we still had a wonderful meal tank-side.
 
I just made my ADR for Jan 16th and called right away to reserve the diver and the manager said that as of now they don not have a contract with the divers for 2009. It was a special thing they were doing for the year of a million dreams with the diver and the banner and they were trying to re-new or establish some sort of continuation with the divers. He said Debbi was on vacation and that when she got back next week she would be working on it.
I am SO BUMMED- we are taking our kids on a surprise cruise and wanted the diver to show them a sign saying "tomorrow your going on a cruise"- how perfect would that be?!!!!

Anyways- He told me to call back mid-August to see if there had been any new developments- cross your fingers for all of us who want to do it in 2009!

I don't see a problem with correcting someones misspelling (it is a hard name to spell, IMO)

However, it is true that she does not like her email given out to everyone....

I made my request thru my DU agent and this is exactly what she said about the email address....

"please do not share this email address on the dis - per a request from Debbi at the Coral Reef"

and this disclaimer is listed on the communication from Debbi....

Well, I never shared any info she gave me personally in the emails, but it's not hard to call the Coral Reef and ask for her name, etc.

Furthermore, I just did a search and found several posts with her email address (which I myself obtained in a public thread about a year and a half ago.)

I apologize if I stepped on any toes but I think it's a little elitist to try and keep it hush hush when most of us probably found about it from an online forum!

How is honoring Debbi's wishes elistist? ANYONE can phone and leave Debbi a message via the Coral Reef number, whether they're on the DIS or not. That's Debbi's appropriate and preferred method for making diver/menu requests. If you send an email that isn't a response to an email or phone call from her, your email gets deleted.

It's been posted in this thread a number of times that she doesn't want her email given out. She's told people on the phone that when they've asked. The DU TA's were told and relayed that info here. (Instead of searching for the email address, try re-reading the various Coral Reef threads to see how many times it's mentioned not to post or PM it.)

Personally, I'd like to see the diver/menu magic moment continue, so I'll continue to remind people that Debbi doesn't want her email given out. It has nothing to do with wanting to keep the info "hush-hush" or anything. It has to do with following Debbi's instructions so that she doesn't get fed up and stop creating the magic... :rolleyes1
