We will be having dinner at the Coral Reef for the first time in May. I thought my DH and DS(4) would really enjoy the atmosphere. My DH is very into fish. I read on another thread that the atmosphere is great but the food is not. Does Corakl Reef have a reputation for bad food? I am starting to second guess my choice.

DH and I went to Coral Reel the last time we were at WDW (January 2007) and thought the food was good. We said we would go back the next time we are at WDW.

You will find good information and many mixed reviews on this and other forums. We have scheduled 2 dinners at the Coral Reef during our April vacation as we love the atmosphere and the food. We request seating next to the aquarium. If you have not tried the Coral Reef I would recommend trying it for yourself and form your owh opinion!:)

I think Coral Reef is a nice choice. We have lunch here almost every trip and we'll be there for lunch again in May. And your DH and DS will love the fish. You have to remember that not every place is going to please every person so no matter what place you post a question to out here, there are going to be some who like it and some who don't. And that's a good thing or everyone would be trying to book the same 5 places.

I hope you go and really enjoy it.

We have eaten at CR many times. Have always enjoyed both the atmosphere and the food, which we find to be very good. As the previous posters have said, reviews are mixed, if you go just by a negative review, it would be hard to find anywhere to eat!:lmao:

Well if its bad you couldn't tell from our plates, there was NOTHING left:

I ate BBQ salmon sandwich (I don't really like BBQ foods, loved this)

Mom had a grouper? that was delicious

5yo had a nice sized pizza, he ate it all as well as the fresh apple slices
He and I both loved the kids make your own sundaes for desserts.

Coral Reef was also the most difficult ADR for use to secure.

For us podcasts fans, we all know why to steer clear of the Coral Reef....

I agree go try Coral Reef for yourself. Some people love it and some hate it. My family and I have enjoyed it our last two visits.:dance3: Enjoy

We thought the food was fantastic! We're going at least once on our next trip. It's definitely worth a visit!

Us too. :thumbsup2 We had lunch there and it was our favorite meal of the trip. :)

Going back in Sept. :yay:

As with many restaraunts in WDW, you'll find a variety of reviews on the DIS. I would suggest trying it. We loved it there and scheduled a return trip for our August vacation. Hopefully you'll be one of the positive reviews!

I went for my second time, DW's first and we loved it. Good food and the sundae desert where the kids can create their own was fun for DD. We loved the atmosphere and food.

Another two we always eat at are Le Cellier and Chef Mickey.

I enjoyed it. The menu is not particularly au courant, but the tilapia I had for lunch last month was really very good. We'd return, though there are still some other Epcot places we haven't tried yet that we might visit first.

we've eaten at several places at wdw and Coral Reef was my dh's favorite of all the meals we've had!! I loved it as well and will definitely do again next time. My ds7 was in heaven right next to the glass!!!:cloud9:

I haven't been there since the fall of 2005, so I don't know what changes have been made, but I REALLY didn't like it at the time. At the time, the place was 2 TS credits, (which was ridiculous) and being from Maryland, I thought the seafood was really lousy. You couldn't even call the crab cake a crab cake, it was more of a bread filler cake. It ws the same as those yucky boxed fozen ones in the seafood section of the supermarket, just heated up. ICK.

I thought the place smelled like a damp mildewy basement. If you are not seated at the aquarium the atmosphere isn't all that great, it's dark and depressing. You can't get up and walk over to the aquarium to look if you are not seated next to it because you would be disturbing the diners sitting there, the tables line the glass, so there is no observation area.

We also had the misfortune of havign a really bad waiter, which just made the whole experience worse.

As is known the atmosphere is awsome. I have always been satisified with the food, but I dont think that the food was bad It was not necessarly as upscale as it may try to appear, however I have always though it was decent.

I listen to the podcasts too, but the simple fact is everyone has different tastes. The reviews given on the podcasts have some valid points, but some things they bark about are based more on personal taste rather than objective ideas of what is being presented. I have issues with the review posted here on the DIS menu pages too because it was not a clearly objective review; it was more like a comparison of Coral Reef back when it was a signature dining experience and Coral Reef as it is today, which is a non-signature restaurant. If you follow that review, you will assume the place is a dump with food on par with Long John Silvers, but the fact is the place has very good food for a decent WDW price (decent WDW price, is that even possible).

If the menu and atmosphere appeals to you then you should give it a try. If the menu does not appeal to you pass on it because the view of the aquarium will not make up for paying a heavy price for food you don't want or don't enjoy.

:thumbsup2
