(Copycat Thread) - Anyone have a DW who doesn't get WDW planning?

I see so many threads on here complaining about male counterparts not getting the WDW planning craze. I would like to counter one of my own.

How many guys here have a female counterpart who does not get the WDW planning craze? My wife looks at me when I am planning the Disney trip as though I have lost it. She chuckles when I call Disney travel office for the 30th time. She pats me on my head when she sees me on Disboard again.

Don't get me wrong. She enjoys Disney stuff. She was the lead in the community theater's Cinderella musical. She loves to make princess outfits for our girls. But when it comes to WDW planning, she thinks I am insane.

I did reply to the thread about DH's not getting it and asked if DW's count. I am the vacation planner. DW thinks I am way too organized. It is very strange she says that because she is hyper-organized on every other subject. We are building a house and she is pregnant. She carries around a house notebook and a baby notebook (these are large spiral-bound notebooks, not a little pocket notebook) with her everywhere so she can keep track of things and write ideas down as they come to her.

All I ask is to have a touring plan.

YES! While she appreciates the planning, she's really not into it. Although thanks to your help, my planning gets us through many happy WDW vacations, and cruises!

Wow, I thought I was the only one! For our trip this past summer, I planned for 8 months, bought several books for the family to read, started a countdown nearly 200 days out, and made all of the reservations. I begged my wife to offer her suggestions for everything: what park to go to on what day; what rides to put on her top-5 list; where to eat; etc. She said she would rather leave all of the planning up to me... she just wanted to get involved when it came to packing the car and shopping for items for the trip. I couldn't convince her that half of the fun was in the planning (and dreaming!). Well, we're off to WDW again in April, and leave in 184 days. Here I am on the disboards getting information and starting to plan (and dream). I'm sure my wife will think I'm crazy again, but will ultimately enjoy a wonderful trip due, again, to my pre-planning!

Thanks for the thread! My wife LOVES WDW but is not into the planning at all. She loves that I take care of all of it and know about "specials" (i.e. MNSSHP, Hoop De Doo, etc.) and take care of ALL the details. She even offers my help to friends that are planning trips. And I really enjoy it as I see it as a game to get the best deals and plan the most fun.
Glad to know that I am not the only one!!!!!!

Absolutely. Wifey likes the fact that all she has to to is pack for herself and go. She's appreciative of the "work" I do to plan our annual safari to WDW, although we all know it's not work at all, and she compliments me on how we milk the vacation for all it's worth without wasting time or money, but she doesn't get the fact that for the 355 days a year we're not in the World, the planning is a substitute for actually being there. Our usual week is the first week in March, and the wheeling and dealing for a better resort rate or a better rental car deal in the final months are all that keeps me sane in those dreary PA winter days after the holidays. Instead of dreading the bleak period from Jan. 1 'til Spring, I look forward to it as it marks the countdown to our trudging through the snow covered airport parking lot, in shorts and sandals, only to step off the plane at MCO to a blast of hot humid air and a quick drive to WDW.

I thought that I was alone in this. My wife and kids go and everyone has a great time. At the end they all say "WOW we did so much and waisted so little time". When I schedule somethig new like fishing or horseback riding they say "Hey I didn't know you could do this at Disney". I guess they think that it is all part of the magic how everything comes together...so do I

My DW just says go ahead. Our first trip was this past April, and she said it was like I had been there many times. Even her DSIS and family, who have gone 6 times over the years, hadn't known as many of the little things that I learned here and from reading the UG. For our upcoming trip, we just talked about the dates and she gave me the reins.

My wife would enjoy the planning...if I wanted to wait until she was ready and excited about it. She can't see more than 3-4 weeks in the future, so she is excited now and will probably want to change things, but I have been planning stuff for the other 4-5 months. We shall see what happens.

Me too! I do all the planning for our trips. I even have to plan her (non-Disney) trip out that she takes with her mom each summer because she's such a procrastinator. We just returned, and she had so much fun and was so impressed that I found out about and set up all of our meals for the dining plan. She kept saying "what's the catch? How are we eating all of these meals for free?" It is much easier for me, however, since my job allows me quite a bit of freedom during the day to scan the DIS while she is hardly ever in front of a computer.

Awesome thread!! It is good to know there are more of us out there. In the "real world" I can't even plan what I am doing over the weekend but in Mickey's world I over plan to the point of obsession. It is combination of trying to maximize value and fun for the family and the fact that I so look forward to traveling on vacation especially to WDW.

My wife has given up trying to figure it out, she just gets out of the way and then comes along for the ride...

Sad to say but my DW is not on WDW preferences to travel on vacations, she loves WDW for the shopping that cant find anywhere else, but do the parks or even planning before the trip is all up to me, i am the one to get exited thinking of my DS 1st time to the world, wating to see his face when he wlaks for the first time on main street, etc.

DW was amazed at the detail in planning my last trip & just doesn't understand. It's funny cause although she likes to think that she wants a "plan free" vacation, she certainly appreciates the work after the fact!

My wife thinks I'm insane anyway, and she gets excited, but she does shake her head that I'm always on this site, or the official site. And when I watch the vacation planning video, she always says, "are you watching that again?".

She's the organizing type though. I set up the basics, and she plans out every minute of our trip once we are there, and gets a kick out of that.

Well I have been planning our December trip since February and just last night the DW says "You know, I think I'm finally getting excited about this trip"


I also have to deal with three people at home who think I'm nuts. The DW and two teenage DS's. Whenever I bring home a printout of something interesting or make some new plans, I get the comment "What now?" or even better "Don't you ever do any real work when your at work"
