Copper Creek vs. Kidani

We have a graduation trip for my daughter planned in June. We originally booked Kidani Village, which is our home resort. We love Kidani and have stayed there on most of our trips. I saw an opening this morning for a two bedroom villa at Copper Creek and switched resorts. We have only stayed at the Wilderness once before we joined DVC, and that was 15 years ago. I’m just looking for an opinion as to whether or not this was a wise move. There always seems to be plenty of room at Kidani, and I most likely would have no problem switching back. This just seemed like a good opportunity to try something new.

You won't have the extra bathroom just off the living room. You won't have the sleeper chair in the living room. CCV two bedroom (if dedicated) would be two queen beds, one queen sleeper sofa and one king bed.

How many ppl. are in your group? Unless you're maxed out or really want that sleeper chair and really need that extra bathroom; we'd def.. stay with Copper Creek. We've only stayed at Kidani once, but we weren't fans. The 2 bedroom itself was nice, but the amenities (pool, gift shop) seemed way too small for the amount of ppl staying at the resort; we had very hit or miss interactions with the CM's and hated how long it took to get anywhere other than AK. I guess if you were driving; the transportation issue wouldn't be as big of a deal, because you could just leave earlier and I would like the parking in the garage, but otherwise there's nothing for us that would win over Copper Creek.

It takes about 13.5 minutes to get to Epcot from KV. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the MK from KV. It's not an all day trip. I timed it on our trip in Nov. Those times included the stop at JH to pick up guests there headed to the parks.

Who knows what the situation will be like come June. But if social distancing on buses is still in place, that would be the biggest consideration for me. Coming from AKV, you'll be reliant on buses to and from everywhere. In the current environment, with bus capacity being very limited, there were a few instances on our October trip where we had to wait longer than typical at the bus stops because buses would fill much sooner than they used to. Coming from CCV, you at least can eliminate the need for a bus to MK which helps. It also opens up additional dining options with ease of transportation to FW and CR.

For our Oct, Nov and Dec trips, we never had to wait for a second bus to arrive. I don't remember leaving anyone behind other than one stop where there were more scooters at the bus stop than scooter spots on the bus (and that happens even in the best busing times). And once at AK where the remaining section had fewer seats than the family waiting to board. We got that section because we were only two of us and the other family had arrived before us. I suppose they could have split up and the rest of the family arrived back at KV after the first two. But they didn't.

There are five of us... my husband, myself and our daughters (26, 24 and 18). We won’t miss the sleeper chair, but that extra bathroom sure does come in handy with three girls 😝. We do love Kidani and have never had a negative experience there, but Copper Creek looks so beautiful I’d like to give it a try! We haven’t stayed at the Wilderness since our pre-DVC days when my youngest was one! It would be fun to return for her high school graduation!

Interesting how different experiences can be. We too were there in Oct. and saw more of what the pp had mentioned about having to wait longer for buses. - I think some of it may be based on priorities as well...I don't think I ever saw the first buses of the morning be able to take all that were at the stop...just from looking at numbers I estimated that it would take at least 3 buses on average to take all of the ppl waiting at the stops in the am to make rope drop...if you aren't rope drop ppl though this would probably not be much of an issue. I think the other thing was that they don't stary buses at AKL for rope drop until 45-60 mins. before official opening which would put us in the parks (after tranporting, going through bag check etc.) about 20-30 mins before official opening, which was 20- 30 mins too late for actual rope drop. Lines were already built by then. I'm guessing they start resort buses from leaving the bus "station" all at the same time, but due to how far out AKL is, it's just the last resortto get ppl to the parks (other than AK.) We finally gave up our last day and ubered. Again, if you drive not so much an issue.

Did you ever go for rope drop? Reports here, as well as my own experience, have been that people line up 60+ minutes in advance of the first bus of the day to ensure they are on the first bus and make it in the park before opening. We also had to wait for a second bus when leaving AK and leaving Disney Springs one night. By nature of the severely limited bus capacity, there are going to be people who experiencing longer waits. Consider yourself lucky.

If the extra bathroom isn't a deal breaker, I would recommend keeping CCV. I think you will really enjoy it. I love the new DVC pool at CCV/BRV. We didn't get a chance to enjoy Geyser Point, but we definitely want to try it the next time we are there.

I also enjoy being able to boat to MK. There's just something relaxing about a boat ride.
