Cooperstown/DreamsPark NY - info needed please

Thanks for that schedule CoMom! Those look like full days at the ball park, as there's typically not enough time to run "home" between games.

The pin trading has me thinking. Since we'll need to add this expense to the budget, what seemed to be a comfortable number of pins teams brought to trade? 25/boy, 50/boy, as many as they could carry ;)?

Question of the Day #2 - cntrygal (if you're still following this one) - This area of NY appears to be very rural. Mostly pasture or farm crops? Any local specialties we'll need to try during our stay? The local winery & breweries were already mentioned, and this farmer's daughter is curious.

Mixture of pasture, dairy farms, and crops. Try the sweet corn, especially if it's from the Schoharie Valley (like from Barber's Farm Stand). Drive down to Oneonta and sample the bbq chicken at Brooks (closed on Mondays). A drive to the north can take you to Sharon Springs where there are some shops to browse & you can see the old hotels there (some are being restored) ... probably not a kid thing though.

My husband actually did all of the electrical contracting work on the Dream Park as well as tons of work in the town of Cooperstown, especially in the Wax Museum and shops on Main Street.

If you are looking for more affordable accommodations I would look into staying in Oneonta. It is a very close drive and will have alot more hotels and restaurants then in the actual town of Cooperstown.

Seriously though - you can not do Niagara Falls from Cooperstown in one day. It would be over 9 hours in the car.

Round trip, yes. Not one way. It took DH and I about 10 hours to drive from Long Island, NY to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada on our honeymoon. And that was just one way.

From Cooperstown to Niagara Falls, NY (according to Google Maps) would take 5 hours and 18 minutes at most one way. YMMV depending on the number of stops and barring any traffic/construction issues.

But Niagara Falls, NY is doable if you leave early enough (like 5 or 6 am for example).

The BBQ place that Rachael Ray had on her show is Brooks BBQ in Oneonta. I can vouch for it. They do fundraisers and are in our area at least once a month. They always sell out! I love Cooperstown.

If you like outdoor activities I'm sure you can go canoeing or kayaking and hiking at many places in the area.

Water Safari is a water park that is very popular. It is about a 2hour drive North from Coopertown to Old Forge in the Adirondacks.

Both Brooks and Water Safari have websites.
