Cooling neck wraps?

Purchased some of those cooling neck wraps for our trip latter in the month. Hand washed as suggested on package and of course the gel (?) expanded. Now 3 days latter and they are still expanded and damp. I had the idea they would open and then dry back to normal. Has anyone had experience with them? Is this how they are to be? Also there is a slick filmy feeling on them and has been since they expanded. I thought about putting them in a pillowcase and putting in dryer but then thought better of it. No way can I pack these things. Any info? :confused3 Tia Grammy

To clarify...

Do you have a link or a brand that we can Google?

Mine always takes a few days to dry out. I have traveled with it still damp, I just put it in a ziplock bag. I didn't have any problem with slime with mine after the first soak.

I bought some recently and washed them for the first time, and they dried in about 24 hours, but they were hanging near my air conditioner and the air was probably blowing on them. They're the texture of light cardboard now.

If yours are slick and filmy, that sounds sort of gross. I'd wash them again in hot water and then hang them in front of a fan or something.

Did you by chance wash them with fabric softener? If so, I am wondering if that might be way? I washed mine up and they dried quite quickly and they're like a thin cardboard consistency.

Which ones did you get... the towels ones should dry in 24 hours or so but the ones with the gel beads in them will take a few days to dry out.

Of course I threw away the package material.... Don't know the name. They look like cowboy bandanas and were about $3.99 or so each. I think I will rewash them and dry as suggested. If they are still icky out they go. I hope I can get them to dry out. If not maybe I'll bring some old washcloths and use them for cool down. Thanks for the info. and if anybody else has any ideas I would appreciate it. Grammy:thumbsup2

We use them... Yes, if you do not put them in front of a fan they will take days to dry out. Even hanging in direct sun they will still take quite awhile much longer than you would expect. Like stated above I hang them in front of an air conditioner or dehumidifier. Eventually they will be just like when you bought them.
Depending on how long they sit in water they will keep trying to expand beyond what the fabric will allow and they may get gooey. We have noticed that with time they don't soak up as much as when new, so there is no longer a need to be careful. If you wipe them off and dry them out the slime should disappear.
