Has anyone tried those cooling neck ties-I think you wet them and then put them around your neck to keep cool? I was thinking of trying that for the next trip. If so, do they work? And where might I buy one without paying a fortune? I think someone said you could buy them at WDW, but I imagine they'd be much more expensive there.

I am interested in this as well. I have been looking at these online and have seen comments both for and against. The pro was obviously that they keep you cool. Against was that it tricks your body into feeling cool and then your body gets out of wack and that can cause overheating and problems?

Has anyone really used them on this board. I feel that I can trust the Disers to give me the straight scoop. Also, did anyone use them with their children. I am desperate to keep my DD5yr old cool and healthyon our June trip.
Thanks

Found these at Walmart last year, $4, if I remember right. Tried them once; felt they didn't work as advertised; pitched them....hope you have better luck:smooth:

I make them and think they are great!! My grandfather has me make them to sell at the festivals he does all summer/fall. We wear them all summer...even during our WDW trips.

I think they were called Aqua Cool and we found them in the sporting goods section of Walmart. I had read rave reviews about them so I picked up a few for our June trip a couple years back. I agree with the previous poster, they didn't work for us at all, and the colors even started to run. We ended up tossing them out. Like I said though, others love them. For $4 or so, you could give them a try, maybe you'll have better luck.

We got ours at Wal Mart also. They don't make you COLD but we found when you are really hot - it was nice to place one around our neck. It gave you a bit of cool, which when you are really hot feels GREAT.

We put on a ladies golf tourn in July/Aug and most of the ladies carry these with them. Some wear them the whole time others just when they are HOT.

We need to get more my DM put them in the freezer (that turned out to be a big no, no). I think for such a small price you really aren't out to much. We did soak ours a couple of times and let them dry before we used them -- we didn't have any trouble with the colors running.

Hope this helps.

We go in Aug. every year and have had good luck with them. Just a little rewetting from a fountain and you are good to go.

Several years ago($12! Yikes) when we were desperately hot in August. We took a cooler every day with frozen bottles of water and would wet the band and put it in the cooler with the icy water bottles. Then we would wear it for about 15 minutes and put it back in the cooler. It really helped me stay cool but I don't feel it worked well with JUST water from the fountain. I think the icy bottles were the key.

I have a cooldana that I bought from QVC several years ago, but that has a pack that you put in to it from the freezer. It won't work for long in really hot weather.

my advice is to take a small hand held personal fan. you can buy some at the Disney Store for $5 (I think), or they do sell them in the parks. I took mine down last year and accidently left it on, so the battery ran out. One of the CMs is one of the stores was ready to give me new batteries until she realized that I did not buy it at the parks (the cover to the battery pack on theirs comes off easily - the one at TDS is screwed on). She probably would have given new batteries to me anyway, but we couldn't get the cover off! anyway, these work really well, and I keep one in my car for when I go to the laundromat in the summer.

We found them to be worthless. I just stick my face in the fountain when needed...it seems to last longer! Don't waste the money...spend it on a Mickey Bar instead!

They do work I work at a safety dist company and sell them under the prices walmart has them at. They are available in all different colors even one you can put inside a hat.

I've had a few and I love to use them in the summer when I'm cutting the grass. I also use it when I'm exercising in the summer.
I haven't used one at WDW,but I will when I'm there this summer!

I just bought four this weekend at a craft show. They were four for $20. I figured my sister and I would try them on our WDW trip and my husband could take one with him to work.
I'm going to stick ours in a bucket full of ice water and see if that works better than just cold tap water.

I prefer a clean flat cloth diaper. That fabric is extremely absorbent, so I just wet down the diaper in a water fountain, wring it out, and tie it around my neck to cool off. When it gets warm I just do it again. The cloth is useful as a drape, too, sometimes I use it as a sunshade over bare skin.

I just bought 3 today in my local walmart for 2.87 a piece. I have never used them, but hoping they will provide a little refreshment.

I love these! We used them religiously in the Nevada desert. I can't comment on high humidity locales, but in the 104 degree Nevada desert, they were great!

Back in July of 95 we too my mom with us and she started us all on wet wash clothes on the back of the neck - dipped in the free ice water it provided some relief - nothing beats a cool pool in the mid afternoon between the lightning strikes.

I first got one while in '96 while touring the Outback of Austraila. Im so glad I found it!. I still have and use it, though I bought some new ones (the first was white and getting a bit dirty looking).
