Has anyone used the cooling bandanas (that suck up and evaporate water) and what did you think. Also does anyone know if I can get them at like a Walmart or Target?

Going to WDW at the end of the month and just looking at all options!!

Thanks!!!!!

I have two that I bought a few months ago at Walmart. I haven't used them yet.... but I intend on using them in September. DS8 is a redhead.... and overheats easily. In the past I've taken a washcloth from the hotel and soaked it in water throughout the day and wrapped it around his neck. I'm hoping these cooling bandanas work better.

We have used them in the past. I made my own...They work great. We soaked them in the morning in cold water and then again later in the parks after they dried out. They really kept us cooler in the summer heat. We leave on the 17th of this month and I guess I better get sewing them now. Thanks for the reminder. I don't know where to purchase the granuals for the inside. I was given a bunch of them years ago and should have just enough left for my family to make this year. I have not seen them at local Targets or Walmarts but did see them at our local do it your self center. Maybe for working outside this summer?

Have a great trip.

They didn't work at all for me last September. They operate by evaporation, and nothing evaporates in the kind of humidity they had when I was there.

My DM has MS and uses these all summer long or any time she feels she may get over heated. They are great. A while ago there was someone making Disney ones on e-bay. HTH:)

They sell them at Walmart in the sporting goods/camping section, I usually find them on an endcap. Otherwise just ask they will know what you want. They run about $4. My DH and DS do alot of fishing so these work great for them, they can rewet them in the cooler full of icewater.

Great Idea, never thought to pack them for the parks.

I have purchased mine in the Walmart camping section. They work GREAT. The coolness they impart is amazing. :thumbsup2 Just regular non-iced water does a fabulous job too, rewetting them in a fountain works fine.

I haven't read through the posts, but I will give you my experience.
I bought 3 of them from QVC to use for a Disney trip in August, we're talking it was 100 degrees! I felt very comfortable and cool as did my kids. My husband said we looked like dorks and he wasn't going to wear them. Therefore, he sweat his patooty off, lol. We soaked them in the sink in the morning and sometimes I would wet them in the park at the water fountains during the day. It was great. I would recommend them again and I am buying more for our next trip! :thumbsup2
Have a great time!

Lol, we do the same thing. Hit the water fountain mid-day and your good to go! :rotfl:

I first used them when the AC went in my car on a road trip in August. From NC to NY they kept DD and I a lot more comfortable than we would have been. We dipped them in the cooler of ice a couple times a day and were good to go.
I haven't used them at Disney yet, but would if it was hot enough.

What do they look like? Are they like a neck scarf? It "SEEMS" like they would be claustrophobic, if so, and so I am just wondering.

We were just there Memorial day week and I took my Buff, like the ones they wear on Survivor. They are made of a microfiber that wicks sweat to help evaporation and they also have a Coolmax version now. they are very flexible, I use them in the winter too, even in the parks when it's windy around the neck to keep wind out, very versatile.

I've ordered 3 and have been testing them while working in the yard in the fabulous 90+ degree heat.

They've been working great.

They are made out of bandana scarves that are folded and sewed. They tie around your neck. Supposedly they are easy to make but with my lack of sewing skills I wasn't even going to try.

I googled neck coolers and it pulled up a construction supply company that I ordered mine from. I don't remember the name though.

Voice of dissent here...

We got the Walmart ones. We felt slimy during the day while using them in August. After a couple of days, we all broke out in rashes. We switched back to face clothes from our hotel room. Maybe ours were defective?

Here is a link for one brand.

I am still on the fence a little but for 4 or 5 bucks if I can find them at Walmart I will probably get a few.

Thanks for all the responses!!!:thumbsup2

Having something wet and cool around your neck will keep your core temperature down, and is also helpful if it wraps around the front b/c it keeps the carotid arteries cool as well. Good all round. If you don't like the slimy feeling, you can also benefit from a regular bandanna soaked in cool water. It just won't work quite as well or as long.

bandanas can make for nasty tan line......trust me, i know that one......

We really like them! :rotfl: Also there is a site online with directions for making your own!:rotfl2:
