Have read on this board that Disney allows you to carry on alcohol (are you limited on amount)and bring on coolers......can
anyone please verifiy this and explain how I need to do this....Does alcohol get checked or carried on....can we carry it on in cooler......Please help!!! do not want to show up at Port and have done the wrong thing........

From what i've read it's fine to take on in a cooler unopened and safely wrapped , they don't like it in checked luggage in case of smashes. I'm sure you'll get the correct info on these boards.

From what I've read here you can bring you own alcohol, but you must carry it on.
Don't know about coolers.

You may bring on alcohol, I've done so on our past 4 cruises. You can not check the cooler and they frown upon you lugging a big cooler, they may not be allowed at all. I saw people bringing very small coolers, the soft kind with them. I would call Disney directly and ask for the correct answer about the coolers as they may have changed it since January.

Disney states in their documents package that personal coolers are not allowed. So, if you show up with a hardsided cooler you may have a problem. they definately will not let you take anything onboard that already has ice in it.

That said....many people, including myself do bring a small collapsible cooler (holds about 6-8 cans) that I pack in my checked luggage. If I am bringing on my own alcohol I will pack it in my carryons and just get ice later from my room steward if needed.

I have not heard of DCL limiting how much alcohol you bring onboard but I think discreet is always best....I would not try to carry on a case of beer....mainly because you will have to lug it around until your room is ready.

Some people have reported that they were able to check cases of soda/water with a porter at DCL but do not know if that is still allowed or if it would work with alcohol.

Another note...any alcohol you bring onboard yourself either at Port Canaveral or any of the other ports you are allowed to consume onboard.....however, if you purchase alcohol from the duty free shop onboard DCL will hold that purchase for you until the end of the cruise and then give it to you. You are probably better off just bringing a small amount of alcohol onboard at PC and then purchasing more if you need it on the islands...it is much cheaper.

No opened bottles are allowed off the ship when you return so either drink it all or leave it for your room steward. There is also a limit as to how many bottles each person can take off the ship that were purchased in ports/onboard to bring back into the country...not sure what that amount is.

Another suggestion is to pack various sizes of zip lock bags....they are great for packing ice in to put in a small collapsible cooler if you wanted to bring it up by the pool or to the beach.

We take our soft sided folding cooler..it goes in our largest suitcase with our drinking water. The only time we brought alcohol on board..we carried it on in a back pack. Never used the alcohold either...there is just too much to do/taste on the ship...we won't bring alcohol on again.

Thanks everyone....these threads are great...I knew I would get an answer!!!!!!!!!

We've brought small amounts on board with us each time.

I don't like to pay huge amounts for small mixed drinks and the beers are most "light".

So if you're like my DH and myself and like to drink coolers or Smirnoffs, bring some on board.

I know every time I have people have jealously come up and "asked" where we got them.

We purchased a medium-size soft sided (collapsable) cooler ...WITH WHEELS!!!....and loaded it up with a few bottles of wine and our swim suits. We wheeled it on board with us...got out our suits (much easier than searching thru our other carry-ons) and headed to the pool. When our rooms opened up...DH wheeled the cooler to the room and asked our room steward to load it with ice. We kept it out on the verandah.

I think the key is that it cannot be one of those large hard sided coolers. At the end of the trip, we collapsed it and actually put it into another suitcase. But we could have loaded it up with goodies we purchased.

I got my soft cooler with wheels at BJs (like a Sam's Club for those not familiar with BJs).

Thanks again guys.....someone had said you have to carry it all say long......can someone clarify this????what do they mean carry it all day????????

rooms are avail by 1:00 (usually) and sometimes even earlier.

The time between your arrival at the port and whenever your stateroom is ready for you to occupy it...Could be from 10AM to 3:30PM...

We got a great little cooler, soft sided, that holds 18 cans, with Marlboro Miles.

That's how we're bringing our sodas onboard. The plan is to ice them down the night before at the Radisson, and then empty out the ice Saturday morning before heading to the port.

They don't allow hard sided coolers, or coolers with ice in them because of the security x-ray machine that they have to pass through.

It will also collapse and fit into a suitcase for our trip home.

how about a cooler on wheels that doesn't collapse??? I have one that rolls like a suitcase; handle and all. has two sections, cooler on the bottom and a silver lined small top compartment, like for a hot dish.

btw -- my DD has refrigerated meds if that helps my case at all

if you purchase alcohol from the duty free shop onboard DCL will hold that purchase for you until the end of the cruise and then give it to you. [/B]

Wait -- you can't drink alcohol that you buy onboard while you're on the ship? Why?

Has anyone seen the cute Mickey wheeled cooler on sale at disneystore.com? Would that kind of cooler be ok?
If so, I'm going to buy one right away for my cruise! I hope someone answers ASAP!

On our last 4 sailings I bring a "carry on" bag of luggage with wheels. I can put 2 cases of my favorite beverage in it. I unpack it in the room, put what will fit of the refreshments in the room fridge (they all don't fit), and ask the room steward for another garbage can....put the remaining in that and fill with ice. A simple tip on the first day and the garbage can stays full with fresh ice. And, by the end of the sailing we have and extra suitcase to bring home all of those things that DW and DDs "just had to have"!

Aisling....I was also looking at the Mickey rolling cooler....I would use it as my carryon and put a bottle wine in it as well.

It is currently on sale for $24.99. I don't think anyone would even know it is a cooler!!!

The mixed drinks, wine, etc. that you buy and consume at that time are fine. But if you buy bottles of duty-free at Offbeat, then DCL will hold those purchases and deliver to your stateroom on the last night. Does that help?

One new thing...we were just on the Magic and the porter said that we'd have to "cover" our drinks (case of beer and a 12-pack of cokes)...so he gave us a plastic garbage bag that my husband wrapped around the drinks. We then carried aboard with no problem.

I took cokes because I'd read that the drink station got a bit watered down toward the end of the cruise. We were on the unplanned 10-day cruise and I never had a problem with watered down drinks...still, it was nice to have soda in the room or to cart to the pool. Probably won't bring a 12-pack next time...
