Cookout Food For Picky Eater

One thing I used to do is make a big bowl of romaine lettuce and then around the sides in smaller containers place topping items like chopped eggs, chopped onions, cucumbers, radishes, sunflower seeds, black and green olives, croutons, etc. The topping items are limitless. A few containers of dressing choices. One friend told me it was the only time she got to get salad outside of home as everyone seems to add ingredients she was allergic to.

My youngest is picky and so am I. I would never in a million years expect some to cater to what I like or don't like! I can always find something to nibble on. And since I always offer to bring something I'm gonna bring what I like!

Would it be different if the person was a vegetarian or vegan by choice? I don't get why it's ok to worry about making someone who chooses a specific dietary lifestyle happy is ok, but you shouldn't cater to picky people.

Huge difference between a vegetarian/vegan and a picky eater.

I would just make what I would normally make. As long as it's simple and nothing far out of the normal cookout foods she should be able to find something to eat. If I was a picky eater (far from it) I would eat something before I left just in case.

The only advice that I would give is to emphasize single-ingredient foods; the odds are high that she won't' touch anything that anyone would call "salad" because many times the ingredients are unidentifiable, and people who are careful about food (for any reason, really) are wary of anything that they cannot visually identify. (One of the reasons why I tend to really dislike eating Thanksgiving dinner at anyone else's home -- it's all about mystery casseroles.)

That said, if she simply accepts a drink and claims not to be hungry, don't make a big deal out of it. If she chooses not to eat, she so chooses, and I'm sure that she will either eat a bit before she comes to the party or get something on her way home.
