We have a ten day trip that will be spent only in the studios (BLT, OKW & AKL). I'm looking for suggestions on how to eat in the units without having access to full kitchen facilities and a dishwasher.

TIA:cool1:

Breakfast and Lunch are easy.
You have a toaster, microwave, refrigerator and coffee pot.

Breakfast...
Cold Cereals, Oatmeal, Microwave eggs (they sell little Micro. egg cookers)
Bagels, Toast... Our favorite... Hit the bakery the night before... Yum...
Coffee, Juice
Lunch...

Sandwiches, Salads, Hot Pockets, or other small Microwavables

I wouldn't attempt to really COOK anything in a studio.
There really isn't much room to put anything else on the counter space.

I would just plan Dinners out.

Since there is only a microwave, you will be limited to what you can cook. I like the studios for short trips. If we care there a week, we always get a 1 bedroom. We did 4 nights in a studio and that was plenty any more than that, I would have missed the extra room and washer/dryer in the 1 bedroom.

I pack a small George Foreman grill and cook, hamburgers, chicken cutlets, steaks and pork chops. It doesn't take up much space in a suitcase and saves on eating out.

There are some microwavable options that are pretty tasty, like pre-packaged pot roast or mashed potatoes. They are usually in the refrigerated meat seaction at Wal-Mart. Bob Evans/Owens brand have been good. We used these a couple of times in studios when we traveled with a group that didn't want to eat out.

2nd microwaveable dinners like Birdeye Voila and Bertucci products. Here in CT Stop and Shop is beginning to stock a few of their own dinners too. In the am, it's easy to microwave an egg in a bowl and make egg and cheese sandwiches (pre-cooked bacon) or instant oatmeal.

I like to bring some cheap plastic bowls like Ziplocks or Gladware to help with the microwaving. I have a real knife and some melamine in my owner's locker along with a small George Foreman grill. If I had room, I'd add a small crockpot too. It would be fine for DH and I.

Our next visit is during F & W, and we won't need to cook anything! :lmao: Just roll us home from Epcot.

There are the BBQ grills if you get a craving for steaks, fish or chicken. You can do a whole meal on a BBQ grill. Pizza on the grill is outstanding.

Enjoy

You cannot grill on your balcony, patio or porch. You can use the barbeque grills near the pools. They use charcoal; they aren't gas grills.

Either use one of the provided grills or bring a crock pot. It doesn't use up much space and one pot meals make cleanup a breeze.

Just bought a camping table which folds into an over the shoulder bag much like a chair. Will use this as my extra cooking space. Plan to bring the George Forman for chicken, pork chops and maybe some steaks. Also have a electric griddle which will be great for things like eggs, sausage or bacon as well as simple grilled sandwiches. Also will take an electric skillet where we can cook up fixins for soft tacos and fahitas. Three simple and small appliances will have us set, the little table will give us the space in a studio to cook. We do have a car with us so no airline fees to deal with plus will be able to shop every few days to pick up fresh stuff as the fridge has room. Good luck with your plans.

we have made waffles (cut halves so we could make mouse ears of course) added fruit. egg sandwiches with meat and cheese on english muffins, bagels, croissants.

we have also picked up rotisserie chickens and turkey breasts, frozen corn on the cob and veggies. We used the chicken meat to make quesadillas with salsa and cheese. also found nice lasagna at the store.

just packed the plates, bowls, utensils needed from home (or remember to pick them up at the store while down there).

you know which villa we'll be in because the kids always insist on popping popcorn for a snack while watching a movie. :3dglasses

Though I do not NORMALLY cook on vacation we are driving to HHI in a couple of weeks and staying in a studio. I don't know what we'll find to eat in the area & since we're driving for once I was considering bringing my panini maker. My DS loves my tuna salad panini's with melted swiss.;) For breakfast we'll do cereal, toast bagels & I'll bring microwavable egg poachers & we'll make our own egg, bacon & cheese McMuffins. This is about the extent of what I'm willing to cook on vacation (regardless of what size unit I'm staying in)!!

Remember that studios do not have "real" utensils or sharp knives or anything so you have to bring all that with you too. I store some of these items in our Owners Locker (which I will miss on our trip to HHI).
