Cookie help please!

Yesterday I made sugar cookie dough, wrapped in tight in saran wrap and put it in the fridge. I just took it out to roll and cut. Its hard as a rock!! What did I do wrong?
 
Just let it sit out for a little while, and see if it softens up a bit.
 
It did. Whew! Can you tell I'm a novice? :rolleyes1
 
I am always pressed for time so I oftentimes pre-make my dough. Consider the dough probably has butter in it. When you leave butter out it softens, when you refrigerate it it hardens. Same thing with cookie dough. Leave it out for an hour and it should be ready to handle.
