Cookbooks for easy cooking????

I enjoy cooking and we have tons of cookbooks. The first one that I typically look for something in is Better Homes & Gardens' book. (Fannie Farmer and Betty Crocker are also good.)

Depending on her skill in the kitchen, you might consider BH&G's Anyone Can Cook. It walks you through everything with step-by-step instructions and color pictures.

I second Fanny Farmer. I bought one when I was first learning to cook on my own and have used it time and again. So many recipes for any occasion. The "Best Ever Pecan Pie" has been a huge hit with everyone I've ever made it for.

Cooks Illustrated books are also wonderful, lot of pictures plus text telling you what works and what doesn't. Perhaps you could give a magazine subscription to them in addition to a cookbook.

Home Goods is carrying the Williams and Sonoma, Weeknight Cooking right now. It is a really, really good book.

I've been cooking for a lot of years and still swear by the Fanny Farmer cookbook and The Joy of Cooking. Both of my books are really stained and a bit beaten up, but they are a mainstay in my kitchen.

A friend of mine just self-published a cookbook of easy but very tasty recipes - there are some samples on her website so you can see if it's what you'd like:
www.catcancook.com.

Also, the La Leche League cookbook "Whole Foods for the Whole Family" is one I still use a lot. The recipes are easy (intended for new mothers with babies, so they can't be too tricky!) and nutritious as well. (I used to get the Taste of Home magazines, and while some of the recipes would be reasonably nutritious, many are very high in fat and calories.) You can order it through www.llli.org (or, if you're in Canada, through www.lllc.ca)

I'm also going to suggest Quick Cooking by Taste of Home. They are filled with recipes that people have sent in. They kind of remind me of the cookbooks that a church or school will put together for a fundraiser.

I've bought most of mine from Amazon. I actually found some for $0.01 plus $3.49 for shipping. Can't beat $3.50 for a great cookbook!
