Ok people...Convince me I need a blackberry. I can already get TV, internet, and gps on my current phone (Samsung Eternity). It has a large screen, and a great camera. The only downside is it has a touchscreen keyboard.

What else can a blackberry do?

Yes it will increase my data plan cost. Currently, my phone works with the $20 plan, and I will have to upgrade to the $30 plan.

I guess I just don't understand all the features. I would be getting the Blackberry curve. Which model is the best?

Nope. I refuse. You don't need a Blackberry. If you needed one, you wouldn't need to be convinced.

The big thing with Blackberries is their push e-mail capability and their strong encryption technology (with BIS or BES). If you do not need either of these, then there's no point in getting one, for me its a requirement because I get my work and personal e-mail on it and I know that both are completely secure, if it get stolen I'm not worried about losing any of my information to someone else because once it's locked there's no hacking into it (unlike some phones).

If you want a smart phone and don't need the enterprise capabilities of a Blackberry get a phone that runs Android. It is the only mobile OS I will consider.

As for needing any phone, let alone a smart one, you don't. Want, maybe, need, only if it is a requirement of the job.

My DH has one from work and can't stand the thing and has been complaining about how terrible it is for a long while now. I wish I could tell you all the complaints but the list is long and I really didn't listen all that well. Anyhow, for Christmas he wanted an I-Phone very badly so he got one and still totally loves the thing. Personally, I think they are both overkill. I mean, who really needs e-mail 24/7.... if it's personal either text or call, if it's business turn it off and live a little. Sure the internet stuff & apps are cool, but I don't think he really NEEDS all that stuff, and I don't see the want being worth the expense but that's just me & my opinion. As long as he's smiling I keep my mouth zipped, it's a fair exchange for him not complaining about my WDW addiction.

If you really want it and can afford it get it, but if you'd struggle for it then I'd skip it.

I'm thinking I'll just stick w/ my eternity, or get the samsung that is just like the eternity, but with a regular keyboard, along w/ the touchscreen.

It is time for me to upgrade phones, and the blackberry would be free. Many at work keep telling me I need to switch UP to a blackberry. I just don't see the need. I thought maybe it did some magical applications that mine didn't. I already get my email 24/7 on my phone. I don't need to upgrade to do that.

Thanks!

I went on ATT this morning, and they recently announced that they have an android phone coming out in March (the backflip). Thanks for the info...I would have overlooked the blurb on it, if I hadn't just read your post. The phone looks great.

My son has the Motorola Droid and it is a GREAT phone. If you don't need a Blackberry for work and you already get email on your phone there is no reason to switch to a Blackberry. It sounds like the phone you have is better already. Now, I need a phone for work and we have to use Palm-I HATE my Palm. I would prefer a Blackberry over Palm but I am holding out that they add the Droid to our approved phone list :thumbsup2.

I have the Blackberry Curve and like it, but when my every 2 years comes up, I think I will switch to a Droid. Like you, I need a keyboard, I am not a fan of touch screens when it comes to typing. The droid has more apps than the BB.
