I have a room only ressie at 40% off and the current general public codes for MYW packages with DDP are not available for my stay at my resort, so I'm sticking with my room-only ressie.

Since DH and I will not be on DDP, I was wondering what strategies people have used to pay for their meals aside from simply carrying the cash. I have budgeted $50 per person per day for a total of $600. If we come in under that, I would be very happy but that is what I'm planning for. I wonder if I should get about $400 in gift cards and just pay that way until the GC runs out and then switch to cash? Should I just charge it all back to the room?

What have you done? What worked well? What lessons did you learn? What would you recommend?

I've charged it all back to the room. Until you reach the limit, they don't transfer the charges to your credit card. So you can go to the front desk of your resort and pay off the room charge using cash. That way you don't have to carry the cash around the parks but you don't have charges on your credit card either. Or I just let them flip the charges to the credit card and then pay it off in full when I get the bill. I don't like to carry much cash around the parks with me.

We are from the UK. Last year, we had an American Express Travellers Cheque card which we pre-loaded with $1250. We used this to pay for all meals and large souvenir purchases. It worked really well as I used to hate messing about with paper TCs - we just had to sign the check and add on a tip and we were good to go :thumbsup2

I have done the Disney gift card and the prepaid travel Visa card, but my favorite way to cover dining is either applying cash or travellers checks to my room account right at check-in and then charging back to the room. Just make sure that you get a receipt showing your room credit! I am getting pretty good at estimating my expenses. On our trip in June, a whopping $5.23 was applied to my credit card at check-out.
