Controversial Topics Board

I haven't seen any very angry posters. The arguments have been pretty civil. I'll tall you what though. I wish more conservatives would join and engage.
I agree BSH, just because people may not agree with someone else’s views or opinions….doesn’t mean they’re angry. I see some frustration in there over our current situation in the United States….very different from anger.

I’m not sure why the naysayers on this thread don’t want to engage…but, that’s up to them I suppose. I thought for sure that a few would be very vocal based on other topics we were allowed to discuss. So not sure why they don’t want to discuss the more controversial ones.

There are some. I wouldn’t classify it as “quite a few” at all.
I didn't quantify precisely because I don't have time to count based on who self-identified, nor do I really want to keep track of who posts what or how they identify. Some who have joined also haven't posted. Off the top of my head, there are more than 10 but probably less than 15 solidly right leaning members who have shared their views. For a new board that just started with a limited amount of members, I would say that is quite a few.

Mainly right now there are a dozen or so very angry negative posters patting each other on the back. Very well could just end up staying that way with other posters mostly coming and going.
I'm pretty sure I know who the usual suspects are. I have no interest in debating anything with them. I find the extremes are the ones that are into that sort of thing. The left especially thrives on it. If you don't believe me just ask my sister-in-law. We call her the instigator. Most of us are just trying to pay our bills and survive.

That's what I'm afraid of too, and I still haven't decided whether to join the new board. I'm not sure I want to invest much time in controversial topics, but I also don't want to struggle to figure out where things are coming from on the main boards.
I post over on the new board @PollyannaMom . I think if you join in, you would see there's nothing to fear. There are opinions on various topics but we are all respectful. If someone says something rude (not hateful or derogatory), they are called out and we genuinely apologize to each other and move on. We are currently discussing religion, atheists, the election, and current events. We even had a sports question pop up. And best of all, no soccer threads from me.

Clearly, some of us "left leaning" DISers were looking forward to getting in there and speaking our minds. However, those of us who are regulars around here know how we're going to land over there...for the most part. However, as I said, there's a lot of nuance in there as well.

There are plenty of right leaning DISers around here, without question. We've battled through the proxy wars of gun control, vaccines, transgender issues, school topics...on and on. I'm surprised that some of the most vocal proponents of right-leaning policies have not made their way over there yet.

I also find it amusing that a couple of the right leaners have found their way over there, but mostly just to do what they always do over here....the "crying with laughter" emoji to show their gleeful displeasure of the post....but never fully posting their own thoughts.
The crying with laughter emoji. Are you referring to Tippy.

That is good to know. There seems to be varying opinions on the civility. Let’s hope it works out. If people can discuss politics and stay civil that would be a first for any forum.

You can always join just to view. There is no obligation to post.

100%

:rolleyes1Yet also very prolific with the laughing emoji on posts that have no intention of being funny, so there's that.

I think that happens over here for sure, because there's the fear of points/banning. Lots of people have done that quite regularly over here. I have too. It's not happening nearly as much on the new board. There's no need to be passive aggressive when you can just reply. I see people laughing *with* people....not nearly as much laughing *at* people.

Right on, which is why it kind of stands out as the person trying to make a point - IMO.

If you ignore a user can you still see their reactions to posts? Maybe that would be a solution for those so bothered?

Right, and with a few I was/am trying to make a point. Sometimes that little guy says a lot and save me a lot of time.
It's rather obvious, but just like IRL, simply being snide rarely has the desired effect on the other party and makes one look mean. Aren't you better than that? If you've got something to say about a topic, say it. If you're just out for somebody...carry on.

Sometimes all you can do is laugh when something that was posted is just ridiculous and there's no point in arguing.
